... bread and use them to grab portions of the meat or sauces so the whole thing can be popped in one’s mouth. After a slice or two of the bread, people switch to rice, another favorite staple that goes well with all the sauces, and the meal continues. After a small portion of dessert we had strong coffee, another specialty of Mauritius (though people often drink tea as well). The whole meal, and the fellowship was a delight.

... shop which was just a normal ****** shop and a rug makers which was an uncomfortable trying to sell situation. Finally we were dropped off at the shopping mall to have time to wander around on our own. We got Sandy to take us to the markets which was an interesting experience. The evening was spent collecting a huge amount of firewood for what turned out to be a massive bonfire party on Martello beach for Lauras birthday! Olivier was braaimaster and cooked up some delicious hotdogs for all the party goers followed by marshmallows on the bonfire :) Laura and a friend of hers did some fire twirling a little later in the evening ...

... of the sea bed. The figures probably gradually sink into the sand after a while, we suppose, but we’re not sure what happens to them. Wouldn’t that suck if you were swimming around and kept stubbing your toe on the head of Ganesh? Would that be lucky or unlucky?

... the white wrought iron gates to the park were the ones originally on the Crystal Palace in London!

Our taxi dropped us at the Caudan waterfront where the ship's shuttle was stopping so we waked round there looked at the craft market and had an excellent coffee and OK croissant (we had hoped for great things with the French influence here!) bought a few souvenirs ad returned to the ship after another good day ashore.
