Relaxation

... time to head back to the ship.

This port really allowed me, as well as my fellow shipmates, to just sit down and not be rushed. I could sit on our patio, or a beach, with a drink in my hand, with no worries on my mind. I did not have to be anywhere at a certain time. I had no trips scheduled, no planes I had to make, no buses I had to be on. All I had planned was to have the time of my life, alongside my friends, which I did.

The south........in a day!

... you can see for a quite a distance a very large statue, not the best looking but certainly impressive from its size. We parked up and headed down the steps and to the edge of the lake. It was a very peaceful place with Daietys strewn left, right and centre and almost dead silence. In the edge of the water you could see bananas, coconuts and little clay pots that they have a flame in and send out onto the water. We worked our way round to the temple ...

First Day at the hospital....

Alarm went off at 7.30......quick shower and a shave and off to the hospital with terrible French music playing again on the radio! When we arrived we were freeted and reception where we had to wait before being sent up to see the medical superintendant, we had to fill in some forms and then he asked what we wanted to see - we said general surgery and general medicine so we were set up with the 1st 4 weeks in surgery where he said we should 'be punctual and ...

Making the most of our last days.......

... of a Canadian couple and their 2 teenage daughters took up some talking time, then Alex, Marian, Chris and ourselves decided to go and look at the markets, the waterfront and go to the bank. Alex and Marian were going to catch a bus to their next destination at 1.30pm, Chris and ourselves decided to join them for part of the journey, so we could all see the waterfall together. Local buses are very cheap and cover most of Mauritius even the ...

Home of the Dodo bird

... organized for over 100 SAS kids to stay in a villa complex. This basically led to it being like one giant spring break. The villas were situated around a pool that was in the center so everyone basically just got drunk the whole time and hung out by the pool. The level of disrespect that everyone had for the villas was amazing. People were breaking things left and right. Some people got the security guard drunk so he wouldn't say anything about them ...

We leave Seychelles and head for Madagascar

... fresh nut was amazingly heavy, definitely too dense to float, yet the specimens for sale in the shop were quite light and hollow, and felt like a brittle ceramic copy. At R1800, and with a heritage authentication sticker, you would have to assume that they were the real thing, but we weren't prepared to buy one and smash it to find out. Certainly the nut at our guest house, and at Georgina's in Beau Vallon had a more "woody" feel ...

Mauritius and Portland Oregon Compared

... We also visited an extinct volcana - Jwala Mukhi. My first set of pictures had a couple of photos of this place. They took us up to the crater which is covered with thick vegetation now. Crater L:ake in Oregon is much more massive in comparison. The water falls on our way to Camarel, also reminded us of Multnomah falls, but this one had a steeper drop and was much less accessible. On one of the 3 day hotel bus tour, they took us to a model ship building factory located in ...
