After a slice or two of the bread, people switch to rice, another favorite staple that goes well with all the sauces, and the meal continues. ... to Mahebourg. Really excellent bus services throughout the island - like England in the old days. The buses were bilingual - notices in both French and English e.g. 'No Smoking', 'Veuillez ceder vos places aux personnes ages, malades et handicapes'. The buses were single-deckers; everyone had his personal bell to ring; the conductor wielded an old-fashioned metal ticket-machine, which produced large paper tickets just like the ones in England ...
