        ... boat, so I headed off to the Airport Island for what I thought was a 9:30 departure. Turns out that Friday is not a big transit day, so the carrier decided not to run until 11:00. No worries, the seaplane terminal is an open air pavilion with roomy seating and electricity! Oh, and a really erratic WiFi network…a quick Skype attempt home revealed its instability pretty rapidly.

        WOW. What an incredible three days in paradise! The Maldives was one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen—the pictures can speak for themselves. We were on a private island resort, and our room was in a bungalow on stilts over the Indian Ocean.

        Highlights:

        • Sunsets—all three of them were gorgeous and we could watch them from the balcony over the water in our room.
        • Snorkeling—we saw sharks, eels, ...

        ... I noticed the schools of fish around me all went into a bit of a frenzy which sent alarm bells. I slowly lifted by head and right in front of me coming my way were two white tipped reef sharks. Yes, I know they will not eat me but it makes no difference. They still scare me.         ... area with huge fan coral and schools of fish that swam right around me. I potted yet another shark below me and yes, I shat myself a bit again even though I now know they will not eat me!

        The ferry ride to Ukulhas took just over an hour and cost 23R ($1.50). There were only three of us on the boat so I can't imagine how this journey makes any profit! I kept myself entertained watching the captain drive the boat with his feet. I ...
