We flew to Mexico City and stayed one night on our way to Ecuador.

Best: a walk around the Zocalo
Worst: a sense the less than stellar group in Cuba negated a great trp possibility
Today I woke up in Cuba and will [hopefully] sleep in Mexico. Let the alarm jar me out of bed at 0630. Ablutions and readied for brekkie, up the secret staircase.

Historical Traveler Reviews Holiday Inn Mexico City Zocalo
Okay, but there are better in Zocalo area
Great location and nice rooftop restaurant, but the staff was terrible. They lied, cheated and stole. Lost passport there--in room!; constantly harrassed by doorman/bellboy trying to sell tours; says it offers internet/email, but computers did not work not; we were told by the manager that our room would be upgraded, but realized after a few days that this was just a bold faced lie.
We had asked for upgrade because double bed was so small that it could not fit one person...I at 5'10" sleep every night with my feet hanging off the bed.
Overpriced because of good location but very bad service...it is better to stall a few blocks away...better value and friendlier and more efficient staff.
Fabulous location, clean modern hotel with very helpful staff. Great rates on tours from the hotel (pyramids, historic cathedrals, silver city of taxco etc.) 6th floor terrace restaurant has great food and a view over zocalo square that is an experience in itself. Back at Xmas with friends and family.
Better than okay
Stayed only one night to be close to the Zocolo. It was better than okay. The interior is all new and clean but possibly the smallest I've ever seen. The windows in some rooms open to interior courtyards that are really just enclosed skylights. The best part of the restaurant on the roof was the view but breakfast buffet was included in weekend room price. Staff was helpful and most spoke a little English.
Great Modern Hotel in a downtown location
This is a great affordable modern hotel in the heart of the historical centre of Mexico City. The location is perfect, it is within walking distance of many sights, restaurants, a great bakery and the subway/metro. The rooms are quite comfortable but a little small. The staff is very friendly and ready to help. The free internet available in the lobby is a bonus. The roof top restaurant has a wonderful terrace from which a wonderful view of the Zocalo can be enjoyed. The only negative comment I have about this hotel is that they very rarely had sufficient Mexican Currency available at their exchange counter to exchange travellers cheques. Other than that our stay there was quite pleasant.
Great Place to Stay
The Holiday Inn Zocalo is an excellent place to stay for first-time visitors who want to experience the cultural and historical aspects of Mexico City. The hotel is centrally located, and has an excellent view of the Zocalo. The staff is very courteous and helpful. The concierge, Mr. Olmos, and his staff were extremely helpful. The rooms are well-kept and clean. I would stay at this hotel again the next time I visit Mexico City.
Holiday Inn Zocalo
The Holiday Inn Mexico City located in the Zocalo is a charming, clean, effecient hotel. The rooms are spacious and the staff ready to help. The free internet access in the lobby is really nice. The view from the roof top resturant is wonderful.
A fine choice
The location of this Holiday Inn - Zocalo is ideal for visiting several days of activities on foot. The rooms are attractive and airy, the staff very helpful. I also enjoyed the free internet. Secure taxis are quickly summoned to bring you to the excellent museums and parks in other parts of the city.
Great place for great value, PERFECT location
We would definitely go here again if we travelled again to Mexico DF.
Perfect location, good rooms, helpul service, free internet service, the Metro around the corner, what else can you ask for? Good rates can be achieved through international agencies, they are usually much better than what you get when walking in (we saved around 40% on the regular rate by booking in advance from Germany). Also, the PERFECT mexican breakfast place is just across the street, it is called Cafe el Popular, try it, the Enchiladas Verdes are wonderful!
BEST, BEST hotel in Mexico City - perfect!
This was a jewel of a hotel!!! It is in the very best location overlooking the Zocalo, and it is brand new. It sparkles! Really, it´s quiet and charming in a new, bright way. A nice relief from all the activity outside. By far the cleanest hotel I have EVER stayed in and I have traveled a lot. Their rooms are decorated with Talavera pottery and old photographs, and the restaurant upstairs has the best view in the world. The city tour bus stops just across the street and leaves every half hour for a three hour tour (you can hop on and off) - by far the best way to see this fabulous and complex city. There´s free internet service and a bar in the lobby under twinkling lights. The Zocalo is the place to stay! Be sure to see Teotihucan and the Anthropology Museum and the Tamayo museum. We stayed a week and could barely get it all in. Dinner at Cafe de Tacuba down the street was a pleasure - music both nights we were there. Enjoy!
Excellent location and value
We liked the Holiday Inn so much we decided to return for our last days in mexico. The hotel is right by the Zocalo - the main square in the centre of the city. The location is brilliant for seeing all the main sites around the square. We stayed in suites for both our visits, these were incredible value - although we suspected this was due to the fact that they overlook the square and are therefore very noisy, especially over the weekend. Although this was a good way to be immersed into Mexican life! One suite had a jacuzzi, the other had a huge dressing room and sitting area. The restaurant had great views of the zocalo, and the food was excellent - i would definitely recomend their breakfast buffet - which is also excellent value. there was free internet acess and electronic safes in the rooms, which was good. We went over to hotel majestic to have a look - and have dinner, this was more expensive and not as nice as holiday inn, it had an outdated feel although the Mexican tiles were nice!
