Holiday Inn Unterhaching

Last day in Germany.

Packing my backpack for two months of travel. The reality of a situation such as this is that you have a limited amount of space (backpack), a set of essentials (medicine, basic clothes, books, papers i.e. passport, Yellow fever vaccination... etc.). Everything else is just filling space and adding weight ...

... and we ended up being scarred for life after our encounters with the dirty old men who were trying to get girls up to dance with them, and then trying to squeeze and grope them! It was amusing at the start, but as the night went on and he got more drunk it became really disgusting more than anything, and we were having to push him away and get really angry. I bought a gingerbread heart off the cutest lovely old Bavarian dressed lady ...

... it would have been to live in them when I realised that what I was looking at were the officers rooms and that the barracks the prisoners were in were just masses of hard wood beds stacked 5 high. With about 10 people crammed into the space the size of those first tiny rooms I saw. I saw the gas chamber, and the crematorium and it was terrible. They showed photos of the medical experiments that were carried out on the prisoners. Horrible horrible image that I dont think I will ...

... the "attractions" being beer halls, breweries and beer tasting sites. It was infused with histiory which we loved, but it was also a chance to meet people which was great because so far it has been just Colin and I. Anyway, we tasted lots of beer (Colin prefers the pils, I like the darker) and at our last stop, The Hofbrauhaus, we finally got those HUGE steins...one litre each. I had about one and a bit ...

Sadly, Munich was only a drive by...I flew into MUC and my younger brother and his family picked me up from the airport. It was a 3 HOUR DRive for them --one way-- and it was late when I arrived, so we headed straight to their new home in western Germany. Luckily, I wasn't deprived any of the Bavarian delights, as there were plenty to be had all over Germany. :)

... Pork, French Fries, Sweet and Savory crepes, etc. The smells were wonderful. The hot wine and cider also released quite an aroma. There was also a stall with items from Peru and it was nice to speak to someone in Spanish. I found a very nice Retablo there and although it isn't very Bavarian, it is just what I wanted. We were pretty much frozen within an hours time and we went back to check on Jim and decided to stay out there and ...

... after the performance. If only american theaters were the same way, tour would have been a lot easier.:) Well now I'm off to walk around Munich a bit while Caroline does some other stuff, and then I'm going to take a 4 hour bike tour around the city where I'll get to see beautiful gardens, drink beer, and see naked sunbathers by the river.  Hope you all are having as wonderful a time as I am, whatever you are doing...but I seriously doubt it:)

After a short layover in Bruxelles where I went into the city for some beer for breakfast and met up with Anne at the airport, I arrived in Munich where the pretty lady above served me beer, pretzels, and sausages at the Hoffbrauhaus. That is what my Thanksgiving dinner consisted of. At about midnight, I caught a train to Ljubljana.

Today was a good weather day. The sun was out most of the day, and Munich is great city. I have been eating well and going to bed a little earlier because I am staying with Priscilla and Jack, and they go to bed earlier than people in hostels. I went top church with the gan in the morning, and that was nice. I had not been to church in a while. They have found a lot of good people in Munich in a short time. After that, I went to the Alte pinatkotek ...

Finally, after being cooped up in London, doing nothing, because realistically, we have no money, we are going to the Oktoberfest. Number four. This year, after three years of being in the campground, we booked a hotel through a company called PP Travel and flew over. The plane was good. Lufthansa. Would you like a beer with your breakfast !!!!! By the time the plane landed, at 9 in the morning, we were half cut !!!!! Friday, we hooked up with a Kiwi girl we were meeting there, Debs ...
