The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through the Appalachians in Virginia, and what a beautiful drive! All the rain here creates a very green, lush landscape filled with yellow, white, purple and pink wildflowers and soft pink mountain laurel blooms as well as bright pink rhododendrons. Trail Days did weird things to the distribution of hikers on the trail. Not much cell phone reception along the AlCan highway. Almost 3,000 miles to get to the launch point of Anacortes, WA. ...

So the next day was another shorter one of almost 14 miles to a campsite just past a shelter. Along the way I ran into Fozzie and Jersey ...

... a bit, enjoying the beautiful and sunny afternoon. Italian ice always makes kids happy and satisfies parents looking to squeeze the last bit of enjoyment out of a long and memorable family vacation. So we licked our italian ices down to the last drippy, stainy red drops, and headed to the Campus Emporium in the town of Blacksburg. Charming small town feel on the edge of campus. Well we hadn't finished ...
