Today we drove back to Rankin County, Mississippi, for the final search of our trip. After a trip to the library, which has a vast genealogical section and a very helpful librarian- we realized that this is a place where we could easily spend a week! The librarian offered to help via email so we decided that we would return to this information when we had more time.

Started our road trip today. We drove out of Dallas towards Jackson, Mississippi stopping along the way for lunch at Catfish Village that serves tradition southern food. We had more than our fill of deep fried EVERYTHING.

The USS Cairo was one of 7 ironclads built for the Union forces in 1862. She was in the Vicksburg area in support of the Union's attack and was sunk by some mines (they called them torpedoes back then). She lay at the bottom of the Yazoo River (just off the Mississippi) from 1863 to the mid ...

... it was a nice, quick stop bringing our total National Park Sites visited together to 92 (our first was in April 2009)! From there, we drove to Canton, MS for yet another Hampton Inn. We (especially Grant) are really hoping for Bagel Toppers for breakfast tomorrow. The Hampton breakfast options are generally pretty good (though definitely not the cooked to order options at Hilton Garden Inn), but the Bagel Toppers are always the preferred ...
