... it’s time to start making plans to leave Nova Scotia and head to Prince Edward Island. But we’re still not done with this province.
E-mails from both kids helped me recover from my homesickness. I’m re-energized to continue this journey.
Our Bed & Breakfast tonite - Tulips and Thistles (Ann and Larry our hosts) - located a few kilometres out of Truro. After signing in, we were quickly sent on our way with a map and instructions on how to ...
After leaving Bear River, the unusual little village with it's construction of homes and commercial buildings on stilts; allowing it's tides to ebb and flow beneath them; we depart the south shore of N.S. and head for Digby on the Bay of Fundy.
A word of caution regarding "Hurricane Bill" causes us to travel towards N.B. The Annapolis Valley is spectacular with it's farm and dairy land, huge silos and vineyards.
Day 9. Tuesday, August 11
We got up very early to check in by 7 am and take the ferry from Bar Harbor, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The CAT bills itself as the fastest ferry in N. America. It can travel up to 55 mph. It was a very smooth ride in spite of a constant drizzle of rain. We arrived in ...
From Annapolis up to Maitland to view the Tidal Bore. We stopped at a local winery because we're gluttons for punishment and want to see if we can raise the ire of the US crossing guard's on the way back. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, we got a great deal on lunch.
Here's my rough definition of a tidal bore: it's kind of like backwash from a river when the 40 ...
... out spots so we knew where to go the next time (later this month on our weekend trip to PEI, for example). We drove just off Hwy 102 to the first spot. Okay, so we know where #1 is. We then headed out of Truro, west to South Maitland and the Shubenacadie River. Well, the river was flowing out towards the Bay of Fundy, wasn't it. Boy, this would be spectacular if the bore was coming in! We must come back!!
Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada coventry_kid... m catching up on all things computer. Tomorrow we are heading back to Bridgewater and the LaHave River area. We both like it there and the Comfort Inn is cheaper so we've booked in for a couple of nights. We're going to drive by some of the places for sale that we've found on mls.ca just to get a feel for where they are, their proximity to Bridgewater, etc. We've only driven around the coast; we have not ventured inland at all. Should be interesting.
Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada coventry_kid... sun burnt in the week and yesterday was a like a warm English summer day, it gets very warm working. This week we've been transplanting lettuces, cutting salad for selling to restaurant's, transplanting sage plants and the odd bit of weeding! We had a lot of fun trying to pin down plastic in very high wind a few days in a row. We nearly got blown away and Jason got wrapped up. Yesterday we went down to the Cobequid river ...
Near Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada galaraven... riding the local roads. I might add I was on the roads the map suggests as the tourist route. So this morning I rode back into Truro and found someone to do some welding on my fender brackets and headed back toward New Brunswick.. The wind was blowing about 25 knots right in my face and it was very tiring and scary to ride very fast and since I started late I rode until about six and got a motel. It felt wonderful to get in the shower after the tough ride and then go ...
Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada dldemented... park interpreter) took about 10 minutes to tell us the story of and behind the tapestry. The grounds themselves were beautiful - if you like grass!! Immaculately kept, I mused it must be someone's fulltime job just mowing lawn around there! Only a few of the original buildings were still intact - including the soldier's garrison housing the museum, a magazine and a dungeon (see photo of Wills being released from dungeon). These ...
Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada sanmutschToday's drive from Truro to Hopewell Cape was mercifully pleasant. I've been looking forward to this night's lodging because it's rather unusual. It's called The Artisan's Suite and it's located in the home of a potter. Being here will help me rekindle my love of ceramics. The potter/innkeeper, Wendy Johnston, built a private studio/shop/home all in one building. There was ...
