entry 4: Banff/Lake Louise

... Agnes Tea House. It was a long way… felt a lot longer than 4kms, but it worth it when I got there. I sat down, had a nice view, could hear the waterfall, ate a cucumber sandwich and drank some strawberry and kiwi tea. Also because it was quite busy I sat at a table with a couple of guys who were travelling and had a chat to them which was nice.

Then it was back down, and I started wondering how the staff got up there and whether they do this walk every day. I should have ...

... and quite nice - it almost tasted natural, unlike the artificial taste of most Gatorade varieties.

I wandered around the mall a bit, not really shopping, because everything was so expensive here. It was surprising to find the Cultural Centre Borges inside of the mall, a live performance theatre that also had an art exhibit. You wouldn't think a soulless shopping centre would've had anything remotely cultural inside.

I stepped ...

Why I Loath Commercial Air Travel.

... like cattle through a maze of zig-zagging lines and barely acknowledged by the few individuals that work for US Homeland Security and the TSA by which they become some form of deity that have the power to rob you of a vacation. Yes, most of the time they don't really hassle you as long as you have say the right things and give them all the documents they want but a simple "Hi, how are you?" would be ...

A new beginning

... be lucky to find it, even if I did decide to get it, as there is a worldwide shortage. So instead of trying to hunt down the rabies vaccine, I am going to make sure my travel insurance covers emergency evacuation. Problem solved - though here's hoping I never need to use that coverage. Next comes the shopping for trip supplies and sorting out the other details of my life, and hopefully an approval from Switzerland soon. Like, today, please. So much to do, so little time!

One way away.

It was a Sunday evening.

I was standing in the Calgary airport washroom staring into the eyes of a girl I knew so well yet I hardly recognized her at all. I watched as her pupils dilated and the seafoam green iris shrink slowly as if trying to hide from something. Transformed in the moment, the sudden bang of the bathroom door startled me back into motion. I turned away from the mirror and ...

... I have also been very busy booking all my holidays. I will be in Montreal / Quebec City for a week in July, then I am going to Vancouver for a long weekend in August, and San Francisco for another long weekend in September. I am meeting a friend in Montreal, but I am traveling alone for my other trips, which is a little daunting! I am going to be staying at hostels, so I hope to meet other like-minded people along the way.

The Missing Link!

... I had watched a Learning Channel program that was showing the difficulties they have in building here and the ingenuities they had to fabricate to overcome those obstacles. Day 4 of being back in Calgary is almost over and I haven't done much. My mind is still trying to fathom what I experienced. I am constantly exhausted. I am no closer to having my website up then I was last January, the last time I looked at it. Yesterday, worse nightmare-Part III ...

Leaving Calgary

... U.K. passports. So here´s hoping we can make a go of it. Once our Spanish is more fluent we´ll be laughing, but for the meantime, we´ll go to school and practice a lot. With my TESL certification, I hope to find a teaching job and Andy is looking for contract work within his specialized area of engineering but technical translation and proofing are also options. We´ll keep everyone up to date on progress and see if we can make a real go of it as expats!! Adios...

... host of other things. It was an uninspiring 3 hour drive there. And I only stayed for a few hours, but I managed to make a quick dash around the whole mall before driving back to Calgary for a reasonable hour. http://www.westedmall.com/home/default. asp

Last-minute preparations

Well, things are winding up. I finished both of my consulting contracts on Friday (Overview Business Consulting - www.overview.ca - an excellent company!) and a small contract at the MBA Consulting Alliance....so now I'm officially unemployed! Eek! Definitely all good though. I have almost everything ready to go....last-minute packing to do, but otherwise all set. I made contact with some friends in Chile and Argentina, so looking forward to ...
