    ... circumstances changed and in 1610, on orders from the governor, the town and crops were destroyed, 16 killed and the wife and children of the chief were captured. This next part is a little hard to tell: When they took them back to the ship, the children were thrown overboard and also shot in the head; the wife was executed. The chief was later killed in a skirmish near Jamestown and the rest of the tribe left the area in 1611.

    ... of how much I have missed the presence of water in my home city. Brisbane used to have a number of fountains but alas, no more. In both Dallas and Norfolk, it has been very hot. Shady glades with running water have an amazing capacity to soothe and restore and both of these cities have had these in abundance. I hope that one day, fountains will return to our Brisbane.

    ... charm of Gold Coast in the mid 60's and looks like the last coat of paint came at the turn of the century (refer photo).    We toured the base today and are in awe.     ... began negotiating with us for the sale of our golf cart. We had been unsuccessful until then in all our efforts to rid ourselves of that cute little burden and were resigned to the idea of renting a flatbed trailer to haul it to a friends house today where it could be sold at his leisure.     Really not much to blog about today. No pictures, either. We started the day about 6:45 by sorting all our stuff. Had too many bags so the goal was to consolidate things.
