... has invaded Skopje and were out and about harrassing everyone for some money. Roma gypsies are are found all over the area and if you encounter them, run. I ran into some in Sarajevo yesterday as well. Seriously, turn away because they will pickpocket you blind with their schemes. One will distract a weary person and the others will reach into pockets or purses. I immediately put my hands in my pockets to protect my stuff and turn ...
Skopje, Macedonia atlpilot36... old bag of nuts and bolts ain't goin' nowhere. So we wait and wait and wait for the company to send a van to pick us up. Mladen's going to miss his bus to Istanbul, but that's good for me, since he'll continue on to Sofia, like me, instead. At this point his presence, and command of All Things Slavic are very reassuring to me, particularly since we've become quite friendly. I realize at this point how vulnerable and insecure I am ...

Kosova,Makedonya,Arnavutluk,Karadag,Hırvatistan,Bosna Hersek, Macedonia nazlicaWednesday: Spending my last 2 days here, I realized that I have been here for almost a month. Time does really fly by when you are having fun. This day I didn't do anything but just rested. I was preparing myself to get ready to go home. I am more of a last minute packer, so there was no way that I was packing now. So instead, I baked some zucchini bread for Marija and Sashe. Marija kept asking me when it would be done, she said ...
Skopje, Macedonia brandilinasue... found some things there that I wanted to buy, but Angela tried to sell me something as well.... she tried selling me deodorant! She is so cute and she is very persuasive, I almost bought the deodorant! After a bit, we headed back "home", there we had even more visitors. Angela's mother and brother came to see me. Kiril is her brother and he is going to be 3 soon! He is kind of shy, but couldn't wait to meet the "American"- he must have thought I had horns or ...

Skopje, Macedonia, Macedonia tuparev_slavcho... military parades, and shockingly vile futuristic public buildings. I've spent near an entire day walking the place looking for some charm and history and come up with precious little. Sure, there's a little bit of history here and there. An old stone bridge still spans the Vardar River on the northern edge of Socialist ugly-ville and across it on the north side lies a good-sized, if pretty ramshackle, Turkish-style bazaar. There's a fortress propped up on the hill nearby that seemed to ...
Skopje, Macedonia xerius... where he arrived at the airport ready to check in not realising his passport had expired.) The general ambience in the compartment had changed somewhat, at Skopje the macedonian left and it was just me and Gregorios, we managed to see the sun come up over the macedonian mountains before descending onto the flat greek plains and into a border town for a gritty greek coffee. Not long after, we pulled into the dusty port city of Thessaloniki.
Skopje, Macedonia alicecrabtree... country. They are so proud to be Macedonian and they want everyone to feel the same way. Everyone from the taxi drivers to the shop owners to the hotel managers all wanted to make sure you were loving your time in Macedonia and then wanted us to tell more people to come to Macedonia. We finally headed out to the train station at about 10 for an exciting(uggg) night train through Macedonia and into Serbia. Not looking forward to that one.
Skopje, Macedonia ericrg... dark to Matejce. They came, naturally enough,in plain clothes, and as we rode in front with only our driv**,the rebels rode behind in their vehicle. We travelled like this out of the capital, passing the hotel headquart**s wh**e we had obtained our NATO KFOR press passes two years before, and out into the countryside. All the while,we kept in radio contact with the support vehicle, who themselves w**e in touch with people on the road ahead. In this way we avoided ...
