... won't allow the public to purchase food from any of the contestants; very disappointing as we were hoping to sample lots of different meats. Lots of vendors selling food.
Cooker Caravan Tour
In order to taste any of the contest food, you had to be a judge (which had to be done on-line weeks ago) or go on the free tours conducted by Cooker Caravan. We signed up and went on an excellent tour to ...
... that area. So what do you do in a good Southern town with lots of history and suspecting all the tourist destinations closed? You got it. We went to a matinee movie and saw The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Dinner was at Corky's BBQ (which we liked better than Central Barbecue) and then it was back to the hotel to pack for our next day's adventure.
It is on our list to go back to Memphis in warmer weather.
... ride. I headed back to the hotel and got the glad rags on before heading into Beale Street which is the street where it all happens in Memphis. The intention was to grab some dinner and have a few drinks and see what the fuss was all about. The problem was, dinner never happened. Actually, come to think of it, neither did bloody lunch ! I had a fun night at several different bars, all with bands playing the blues. BB ...

They had sculpted little hills within the park, which the locals found rediculous because there is not a hill to be seen in New Orleans. Up until she said that, I hadn't noticed, but then there are so many buildings! But once she had, the little hills in the park did in fact look rediculous!
Then we walked up to a school that is ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Memphis Airport Hotel and Conference Center
The strangest layout of any hotel I have ever stayed in. Rooms were average at best and hotel staff was friendly. Pool was dirty and impossible to find. Wouldn't ever stay there again, in bad part of town (security guards and gates to hotel). A very disappointing hotel.
Pretty variable service - some of the front desk staff were really REALLY rude - one seemed to try to deal with customers without actually speaking! I asked if there was a restaurant nearby and had a shake of the head as the silent reply and on another occasion I asked about some luggage that was being delivered for me and was answered by a silent pointing finger. It sounds rediculous but it's quite true.
I thought the Hotel was great! The room was very clean, and the Hotel Staff were the friendliest. I will stay here again.
Dont Book It
Room had a bad smell.
The layout is chronic.
The cleaners seem to be there all the time filling the trolleys (02:45 !!) and chatting - not cleaning.
Arrived late at night in torrential rain and would not have stayed if I'd had the energy to find an alternative.
Couldn't get out fast enough.
I'm not a fussy person, however this hotel has some real issues.
we stayed here twice, my sister and i enjoyed our room, it was pretty nice size. Our first stay was elvis week, so there was much to do and alot of excitement. our second time was much quieter, Room service was exspensive!!! we couldn't find a ny coffee nowhere. And it cost a a fortune for a tour co. to take us back and forth.
I Will Never Come Back AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
I really am disappointed about my stay at this particular hotel. There rooms were somewhat distasteful. The food in the resturant/room service were extremely to high. When I did deceide to eat in the resturant, i was nearly attacked by a dozen of fruit flies. I also saw a roach crawling on the floor in the resturant. The ladies at the front desk are really rude. When i called to tell them my remote was not working, they lied and said someone was on there way,(They showed up 6 hours later). I did not particularly like the fact that they had a wedding reception going on outside my room while my 3 month old daughter was trying to get some sleep. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to the president of the United States. Thank God I lived through this tragedy.
I've had more than 20 stays at this hotel due to my business trips. So far I had 2 incidents of fire alarm went off in the middle of night, and hotel could not find the reason so they had to knock on everybody's door to find the source. I had seen roaches in the room more than twice, and when I called the front desk to report the problem, they sent to someone to catch the roach but they never sprayed the room, or apologized or offered any comp(switching room or free breakfast). Once I had a very nasty toilet and they had to send someone to clean it but they told me it was because they were out of water for couple of days.
After reading all of the glowing reviews on the web regarding the Holiday Inn Select - Memphis Airport and looking forward to staying there, I was a bit disappointed with my visit. They do not offer a free continental breakfast like most other hotels do now and their restaurant / room service prices are fairly high. They only offer 22 TV channels when most other hotels offer 60-70 channels. The lobby ATM charges $2.95 per transaction which is ridiculously high. Our room was nice, but not worth the $95 per night that we paid. Also didn't like the way one of the desk clerks called us back to the registration desk halfway across the lobby to tell us we wern't eligible for the Holiday Inn "Free Dinner" promo after she processed everything and sent us on our way.
