Hotel was well priced staff friendly but it would have been nice if they could have told me about the excursions that picked up from this hotel. La Mirada is quite a way from the airport. This was the only hotel that our 3 day San Fran trip picked up from and as the departure was 7am. I thought it best we stayed at La Mirada. I had independently booked a sightseeing trip of LA combined with a visit to Universal studios. It cost us an arm and a leg to take a cab to the meeting point. My point is I wished they had emailed me a list of excursions that I could have booked with them.

Last night I asked reception to book us a taxi to take us to our pick-up point for our tour of Los Angeles and Universal Studios. I gave the concierge the address and asked if he had any idea about how much it was going to cost. About $50 he said, and then added "You should have booked that trip with us, then you wouldn't have had to get a taxi." …

Morning comes early when you've changed time zones. Top news stories of the morning (and our adventure): Government is still shut down, and the weather! Not just talking about the weather here in sunny California (which it is), but the high wind warning starting tonight, blizzard in Colorado, and storms in the mid west (the kind that took Dorothy …

... we walked along the walkway taking photos of various Stars names etc.

More importantly we found a huge Lollie shop which advertised itself as the greatest sweet shop in the world. While it was magnificently fitted out, we bought nothing but had a good experience there.

We then were given a guided tour along the Sunset Strip which I didn't think too much of.

By now the time was about 4pm and we were driven to Studio City and ...

Only a 12 and a half hour flight from Brisbane. Must have had a tailwind. Got a few hours to kill before Southwest flight to Denver. For anyone visiting LAX, they have a USO (Bob Hope USO) almost directly across from Southwest - Terminal 1. Luckily had some ID so I'm in. Leather sofas, coffee, breakfast, computers, free internet etc..... so if you're transiting LA, it's open to current serving and retired. Beats sitting in the terminal.. Next stop Denver this afternoon.. ...
