... very much about this museum was the great number of very interesting civilian home-built 'kit' planes from the 70's and 80's - very exciting to see what people were building then (and may still be building now). Some are very small while others start to see some size in them.

Early start as we needed to get down to the Washington Monument to queue up for allocated free tickets. Each day a number of tickets are allocated for set times and these are usually all gone by 10:00am. The ticket window opens at 8:30. At 8am Starbucks in hand we queued up behind a couple of dozen early risers. By the time the ticket window opened the queue was much longer.

... off at Union and take the subway to Arlington Cemetery, even though my ankle is now swollen to the size of an orange. This visit I have to do, I cannot leave without having seen the vast amount of white stones, each one standing to remember a life lost. The walk to the JFK gravesite would be too far for me but I am proud and happy to have made it up here.

Airport selfie while my flight is delayed! First stop: Frankfurt, Germany for a lovely 4 hour layover. Luckily, according to my flight attendant, "there is a lot of hot air in Washington," so our strong tailwinds should land me in Frankfurt close to my original arrival ...
