Ralf and I drove to Dave S. in Gloucester, MA an old friend of mine who put our new knobby tires on the bikes.
Off to Portland, ME on the Amtrak. Stations here seem clean and unrushed but I'm thinking that this station is a bit of a provincial station with trains only heading north. I'm sure the south bound trains to NYC may be different. Train is delayed already but I know that as they had the rail work schedule in the local paper - Boston is really a small town and they seem to report everything in the free paper. ... has recently been voted as one of the most beautiful streets in the USA. It was very beautiful with lots of big old American houses. We would have gladly had any of them. Our time in Salem was rounded off by a big American hot-dog in a family run cafe.
