    Totally Screwed Up Reservation

We will not stay here again! Mixed up our reservations, despite follow up phone calls, double charged the credit cards, no tissue in room, phone didn't work, ice machine on floor didn't work, and door to room stuck - had to shove open and slam shut. Management was very lackadaisial about it - his attitude was that is just the way it is.

    Voll okay

... communities sprang up along the Virgin River. Issac Behunin built the first log cabin in Zion Canyon on the fine- grained lake sediments near today's Zion Lodge. Amidst the grandeur and beauty of the spectacular white and pink monoliths and canyon walls, Issac and the few other Mormon settlers felt as if they were surrounded by a great cathedral and heavenly place. They called it "Little Zion".

... an hour or so of nothing but tortured trees, you see an oasis! Tall buildings. It's the Primm Valley at the Nevada/Cali border. They waste no time putting up casinos in the most unlikely and unwise place to put a city. Why drive the additional hour to Vegas? We can take your money right at the border. As we drove lower into the valley the temps shot up past 110. We finally saw Las Vegas in the distance and exited south of the airport on the ...

... trekked alongside huge, red cliff mountain ranges. They were hard miles, but without my little bike computer... well I wouldn't know how far I traveled. It tells me I went 40.59 miles at an average of 11.3 mph for 3.5 hours with a maximum speed of 38.7 mph. That total mileage felt too short for me, so I had plans to head out at 8:00 PM, climb a quick summit and coast down into Apple Valley to reach my goal of 50 miles for the day. ...

... and went shopping for provisions.

We enjoyed a nice lunch of buffalo salami (from Jackson Hole) sandwiches and then headed out to Snow Canyon. On our way we stopped at a housing developing in the foot hills of the canyon. It looked like a brand new development and the "Model Home" sign beckoned us. We were let through the gate and checked out the model. Wow, were we impressed. It's all one level and about ...
