Suggested to Mary a light lunch, we had huge piece of cold salmon, new potatoes and salad, followed by cheesecake and raspberries. Really nice, but a little ott. We re-joined the queue, and now two hours later it was much better and smell of pizzas from our boxes gave us some envious looks, we almost exchanged half eaten pizzas for a sweatshirt. Returning to our apartment, poor Elly had to suffer the competitive Le Goods playing card games before we retired to ...

The joke on me - getting lost

... I had gleaned enough of a sense of what the map was saying, that I could use the road signs to navigate my way to Heathrow Central Travelodge. After a half-hour trudge in the worsening rain, on dark pavements by brutal dual carriageways, I arrived. I wasn’t dry but I still had all my valuables.

And as I checked in, the receptionist asked: “Are you going anywhere ...
