Duck Tour in Philadelphia

A travel blog entry by daltonwarne

Today, I was in Philadelphia. It was way less crowded than New York City! I saw the Liberty Bell and Ben Franklin's grave. I also rode a duck boat. A duck is a tur bus that goes around the city and also can go in the water. Our duck went in the Delaware River. After the duck tour, we walked to the Hard Rock Cafe. The fod was really good and the desert was too.

First day in the city

Started the day around 7:00 and were on the road by 9:00. We drove out of Lancaster to the East and through some Amish areas. There is an old one lane wood covered bridge that I had found out about and we made a little side trip go across it.
We arrived to our hotel just before noon. We were able to get into our room right away and our package …

We get to Philly at rush hour so we get stuck in a few traffic jams on the way in.

When we finally get to our hotel lee parks out the front and jumps in just to check in,I'm just waiting in the car when the bell hop comes out and starts taking our mountain of bags out of the car,lee told him to start taking our stuff out because there is a …

Day 13 - A Little Brotherly Luck

A travel blog entry by monahan

"Up and Adam" at 7:00 AM, and we were out of the hotel within a couple of hours. Our attempts to reach the Hershey Factory on the phone weren't successful – not a good sign – so, we decided to just drive over there and check things out. It was a lot drier today than yesterday, so we were hopeful.

Here’s a little more …

    Extremely disappointing

The first room we were allocated hadn't even had the waste bin in the bathroom emptied. The bath had someone's hairs in it and there were shoe imprints all over the floor. The bedroom hadn't been cleaned & we contacted the front desk who did send the Housekeeper quickly. We showed her the reasons for our complaint & were shown a different room which looked clean on the surface & we accepted this room.

    Loved the HI

Excellent location. If you want to stay close to the bars/restaurants, this is the place for you. It's a Holiday Inn. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. I loved it.

Great location, great staff...a wonderful time

This was my second trip to Philadelphia and choosing the holiday inn this time made all the difference. The staff knew about everything to keep us busy and were so nice. The hotel was full of families and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I definately would stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling to Philadelphia.

    Not Impressed by Holiday Inn

From the moment we arrived at the Holiday Inn to the moment we left we were not at all impressed by this hotel.

    Avoid this Hotel!

Stayed post cruise and what a let-down. Carpet in room so stained and dirty I wore my shoes in room. Bathroom floor dirty, shower curtain moldy and bathtub wouldn't drain properly. Stairwells smelled so bad I was gagging before I got to next floor. Terrible odor and dirty. Went to restaurant for quick dinner of hamburgers. Waited for waitress to take order for 15 min. Then our sandwiches came 1 hour 15 minutes later. Obvious they had been under a heat lamp the entire time. I travel a lot and have never complained to management - but this experience couldn't have been worse. Didn't have to pay for dinner - but didn't erase the frustration. This hotel has Holiday Inn name and is in a great location - but I would have to advise anyone to steer clear...

Terrible Review: Holiday Inn Philadelphia - Historic District

The Holiday Inn Philadelphia - Historic District was terrible! The room was dirty and small. The sheets and bathroom countertop were stained, and we found hairs all over the room. The furniture was old and warped. Basically, the room had not been updated in 50+ years.

The staff was also unacceptable. The frontdesk help was understaffed and unorganized. Our room was not ready upon the 4:00pm check-in time.

In other words, DO NOT go to this hotel.

    Great staff

an excellent hotel very well situated for most attractions.

the staff were extremely helpful especially the concierge who provided great local knowledge about attractions and ball games etc.

the room unfortunately overlooked the air conditioning system but you can't have everything.

    would reccommend hotel to friends

    Stay clear

I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The room was very dirty. In addition being old and marred, the furniture was coated with dust. The bed linens were limp and threadbare. When I pulled down the bedding, I noticed that the bottom mattress was covered with stains down the sides.

The bathroom was very old. The rugs throughout the hotel seemed ancient and dirty. This hotel is in desperate need of an update. I stayed for only one night in July, but couldn't wait to check out.

    Nothing to write home about

We stayed at the Holiday Inn from May 13th thru 15th, 2004. We were attending a family wedding, and a block of rooms was reserved there, so we didn't look into other lodging, just booked the hotel where everyone else would be. The rooms/bathrooms were just kind of old looking and the decor wasn't my style. The front desk clerks were just OK. The restaurant (breakfast) was horrible. The housekeeping staff was very nice and helpful. I heard there was a pool but was also told it was out of service. Location is OK, walking distance to several historical sites. If I went to Philadelphia again, I'd find a nicer hotel to stay in.

    Room for Improvement!

Stayed at this H.I. for 4 nights last December (2003) and found it pleasant and reasonably priced for what it offers.
