A Wonderland for Walkers

They Said:

Even if for only one damp and chilly night, we finally got to see another city in Bavaria. Nuremberg is mostly a bombed out shell of its former self, redone since the war with more modern style architecture but still retaining the city's original mapping. This means tons of streets that are pedestrian only, and for the most part, this is how we enjoyed the city – simply by walking its ...

Nuremburg and Glass Blowing Excursions

... or visa versa. We got to go though the house to see how they lived back in their day. At the end of the tour, we were taken to the workshop and shown which elements made certain colors, then got to watch a demonstration of a lady making art.

After the tour of the house, we hurried to the toy museum that was just down the street. We had less than an hour to explore the 4 floor museum, but we ended up making the time stretch as long as we could, goofing off every chance we got (we ...

A Quiet Sunday

... and took buses to Nuremberg. We visited the Zeppelin Field where the big Nazi Rallies were held and the Hall of Justice where the Nuremberg Trials took place. Bought a souvenir pin at Market Square and had cokes at a bistro while waiting for the bus to take us back to the ship.

Go Icetigers Go!

... There was even an ex hab on the team (Andre Nasredine) who scored a goal for us! To make the night even better we won 6-2 with some awesome goals and awesome saves!

Very happy with our decision to return to Nuremburg for the hockey game we left the following morning for Vienna. It was a long trip so we cut it in half and spent a night in Linz, Austria. Another gorgeous place to pass right on through!

Beware the falling Acorns!

... of Nuremburg on day 2! Nuremberg is famous for being the city where Hitler condemned the Jews and lots of other ****** stuff so obviously it was bombed to hell in World War 2. Very little of the original buildings remain. The walls to the center of the city are still there in most places and the churches are still being rebuilt in certain places but they restored the city very nicely and it still has ...

Finally Nuremberg!

... a giant wall around the entire city. Very unusual, and more people speak English here, even more than Berlin. I had a yummy Deutschland Doner for dinner, and a large pastry and a chocolate muffin. I have been full of junk for the past week. The guy at the grill was very nice though, very funny. Weather has been perfect so far. Note to anyone wanting to travel to Germany (deutschland), some places are spelt differently- like Nuremberg is actually Nurnberg.
I'm tired of train travel

... to do it, so we paid the 3 Euro. And boy was it worth it! We liked the exercise and didn’t think it was that much, and the views were way better than from below. We could even see all four towers along the city walls.

After we descended the tower stairs, we also went to see the deep well, which came with the ticket. It was 150 meters deep, and the German guide dropped some water into the well. He started with just a couple of drops, which were much louder than I ...

Nuremburg, briefly.

... had two transfers, at Ansbach and Steinach, getting in at 10 till 7. On a solemn note, at breakfast I had my back to the TV, trying to ignore CNN, but I heard there was a school shooting in Ansbach, Germany in Bavaria. I told Erin that was one of our train transfer stops today, but we didn't notice anything unusual the 7 minutes we were there.

At Rothenburg we had a 15 minute walk from the station to our hotel in the middle of town, loaded down with ...

Roth/Nuremberg

... after dinner we enjoyed some Bavarian 'yodeling' music.....an early for some! Monday, 6th October - Bamberg Located at the beginning of the so called 'Main-Danube Canal' we had a Prof. of Geography from a German University come on board and gave a lecture on the construction of this Canal.....very interesting. So it is not all food, wine and frivolity on board this ship!!! There is some serious stuff too!!! Back to Bamberg - it has such an abundance of ...

Checking In

... bit worrying because the flight was oversold so the longer the queuing took the more worried we were that we may not get seats. We did of course make it onto the flight, which made up some time in the air and arrived at Singapore only around 10 minutes late. The Frankfurt flight was also late, arriving from Sydney 40 minutes behind schedule. This meant we had a longer than tolerable change at Singapore's Changi Airport - a place for which I already harbour a lot of negative memories, a ...
