We know we are coming back a few times to Epcot because the International Wine & Food Festival starts next weekend and because we have plenty of time to split the park up in sections so that we ensure to ride, see & do everything the parks have to offer. Historical Traveler Reviews HomeSuiteHome Nikki Bird Main Gate Kissimmee
This hotel was not what I expected. The brochure said it has kid suites. I expected a suite with 2 rooms. As you walk into the room, their was a queen size bed with what I would call a "cubby hole" or a divider with 2 small bunk beds and another bed next to it, with a tv/vcr. The tv in the "kids suite" kept coming on by itself in the middle of the night, we had to unplug it everynight before we went to bed. While our kids were in their "suite" watching tv, my husband and I could hardly hear our tv. So the quarters are very tight. Housekeeping was very good. They came in everyday and cleaned the rooms. My husband works in the hotel business so we know that the guests should be treated and greated with a smile. The staff here at this hotel was NOT friendly. I can think of only 2 employees I beleive they were housekeeping and engineering that actually acknowledge us as we walked by. The food in the restaurant was ok. They have a seafood buffet with lobster and crab legs. The lobster was ok, but the crab legs were very salty. The breakfast buffet was alright. Kids do eat free, but their drinks are not. And you have to remind the cashier after you eat to take off the kids meals. We went to Orlando to go to Disney, one of the main reasons we chose Nikki Bird was because of the free shuttle to Disney World. Since it was offered to the guests you think that it would be easy to catch a shuttle on time. On our first day to the park, my husband and I gathered our 3 kids ages 8, 5 and 1 years of age down to the 6:30am buffet breakfast so we could be the first to board the shuttle. Their were about 20 people waiting for the 7:30am shuttle to Magic Kingdom, it came about 10 minutes late. It dropped up off at the main gates to MK. And we were told that we had to wait until 9am to take the ferry to MK. So we got up caught the 7:30 shuttle and we had to wait a little more than an hour just to take a ferry to the actual park. But thats not it. Theres more, the same day, we were waiting in the pouring rain in the middle of the parking lot their was nothing to sit under nothing to sit on their was about 30 adults and 15 children waiting in the rain the bus was over an HOUR late. Their excuse was that it was raining and they could not travel. I mean come on, it's Orlando FL, it rains almost every day! When the shuttle finally got there the driver said it was because the traffic was really backed up, but as we were on the main roads none of us on the bus noticed any traffic. The next morning, we were headed to Animal Kingdom. Their was at least 50 people waiting outside the hotel for the shuttle in the parks, we knew that a small bus was not going to hold 50 people, so they had to do 2 trips and they were still late picking us up that evening. My husband works for the company that manages Nikki Bird, so we got a $29.00 a night discount and I must say, we got exactlty what we paid for. If I had paid even regular price for that place I would have been upset. It was not worth it at all. I was extremily disappointed. The only thing I learned was that the next time we visit Walt Disney World, we will rent a car and stay on Disney soil. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO MY WORST ENEMY!
This hotel was excellent. The staff are friendly, and the restaurant is plainly amazing! (It is full of movie and music hostory)! The pools are excellent, and the parking is easy to access, and free. Check-in is easy, and fast. Navigating your way throughout the hotel can be a bit confusing, but within a day of being there, it is easy to figure out.
There is an excellent game room, and two good pool tables. This hotel is within easy driving distance of all of Orlando's theme parks. The hotel is also located next to a lot of great shopping centers. I absoluetly recommend this hotel to you. It is family orientated, and very fun! Enjoy!
This hotel is in desperate need of a renovation. The rooms are dirty, dingy and worn. The outside of the hotel is very outdated and looks rundown. The pools were never cleaned during our stay and the gates leading to the pools were often broke. The food was overpriced and not very good (NOTE: kids eat free but do not drink free). We had to change rooms 3 times during our stay. When we checked in we had to wait over 2 hours for them to get us a room. Then when I opened the door, I found 3 hotel employees feverishly cleaning it, however, the air conditioner had broken and the floor was flooded. They were trying to dry it with the air conditioner. The second room had its problems as well. The kids TV did not work, the bathroom sink only got hot water and it was located on the second floor furtherest from the stairs and no elevator (we had booked a pool view room). Finally came the third room which was adequate. However, in defense of the hotel staff, they were polite and tried to resolve our issues quickley. If you decide to stay here....BEWARE - you get what you pay for. The Holiday Family Suites is much nicer and worth the extra money.
We just stayed a week at the Nikki Bird and were disappointed with the room. The hotel in general was okay, but the room was very damp. Our clothes were wet feeling all the time and the sheets felt like you were camping instead of at a hotel. We ran the air conditioning on high and that helped a little.....we were so desperate one day, we turned the heat on to try to take some of the dampness out. We were going to ask to be moved but one of the cleaning people told us all the rooms had the same problem. It was raining a lot while we were there, but.....this seemed to be a real problem in this hotel, since there was even mildew and mold at the top of the walls growing under and around the wall paper border. Luckily I didn't notice that until our last night there!! I would look at other hotels before returning to the Nikki Bird.
Having been a flight attendent for many years I have been pampered with 5* and also used the cheapest motels on my concessions. This hotel is classed as a budget, and therefore visitors expecting 5*+ will be disappointed. However, those holiday makers who use their savvy and realise that what you get is what you pay for wont be....... The rooms are clean, comfortable and offer a good base for a maingate holiday.
Surprisingly....nice quaint place.....
We stayed here May 03. For 2 nights. Very close to the Disney parks, we drove our own car but there is a complimentary shuttle. Main pool was nice along with the kiddie pool for my son. The front desk was very personable. We didnt eat at any of the restaurants but they looked crowded (meaning good I guess) Room was average. It could use some spring cleaning but it wasnt bad. Would definately reccomend it to any other travelers because of the location.
We went to Orlando the last week of April/first week of May. It is hard to find comprehensive information about this hotel; so, not to bore you-but I will include some details in my review. We only spent three nights at the Nikki Bird, but our stay was very comfortable. We were close to the Mickey Mouse-shaped pool, which was clean and fairly warm, and large enough for our taste. There were enough lounge chairs and some patio tables. The kids loved this pool. My husband liked the hot-tub after a long day walking around the parks. The landscaping around the pool and the inside corridors is very nice and well-kept. The only thing we noticed while there that was not well-managed was some type of a major water leak (fortunately not near our room) coming off a second-story balcony and running along a sidewalk. By the end of our stay, this had been fixed. The staff was very friendly and accomodated all of our requests. Be open-minded when you pull up to this hotel. My husband saw the outside and thought that we were at a less-than-savory hotel. The outside is dated and worn. Don't let the view from the street fool you-this is a large resort hotel with outside corridors(my hubbie thought it was a motel). The inside has been remodeled and was actually quite nice. The lobby area contains a gift-shop, check-in desk, ticket-sales desk for theme parks (also time-share), 2 decent restaurants (my suggestion is to eat in the diner rather than at the buffet for dinner--it's too crowded and the food isn't that great, especially the lobster which is the highlight--my husband said it tasted like rubber. Breakfast is reasonably good at the buffet and has everything you could possibly want to eat-for appx. the same price as ordering a plate at the diner, plus kids eat free either way), some couches and chairs, pool tables, a drink bar which served smoothies and cappucinos and teen-appropriate snacks like nachos, an arcade, and attached to the buffet area what appeared to be a bar area for alcoholic drinks (we never wequipment was newer and was located outside the back entrance to the lobby complex. Our room had a fridge, microwave and safe! There are double-doors to the bathroom so that you can wake up before the kids and get ready without blinding them with bright lights. We even had a brand-new sleeper sofa in addition to our 2 large beds. Our room was cleaned thoroughly everyday. We were within walking distance to the washer and dryer, which came in very handy. There were vending machines (some did not work) in the hallway next to us, so we could buy pop and snacks. We used the shuttle on one occasion, to the Magic Kingdom, and found it to be efficient; though it didn't offer a lot of flexibility. However, they did leave early enough in the morning to arrive at the park by opening time. Best of all, we received all of these services and amenities for a nice price. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at this hotel and felt that we would return and recommend this hotel to others.
My family and I spent 10 days at this Hotel. It was very nice. They have an excellent security department and all the staff is friendly. We found the fitness center and it had everything we needed. The pools are nice and the hottubs were awesome. They cleaned the room daily. Yes the rooms are old, but clean and well kept. The Angels Lobster Feast was great and the kids eat for free is a nice option. They have a nice restaurant attached and they are across the street from a very nice 7 eleven that has fresh bagels, rolls and coffee along with inexpensive sandwiches. The hotel is acceassible to everything, theme parks, great restaurants and it is on the main roadway to everywhere. With two adults and two kids. one kid is 15 and the second was 8. They loved it here! This is a place we would go again. Go with an open mind and enjoy it. It's NOT a four star hotel but it isn't billed as one either! If you book it online and get it for the right price it is a great place to stay. If you pay more then $80 per night it's too much. There are some great online deals. Check them out and enjoy!
The night before we left for our Florida (Disney) vacation I decided to check out the web for info on the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird to see exactly what type of accomodations my in-laws had made for us. Based on the reviews I read I was pretty bummed out and had low expectations of a pleasant vacation. However, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised to find our room to be clean and comfortable and the rest of the complex to be very nicely manicured and maintained. The pool / kiddie pool was a clean and the towel service there was a nice touch. My kids ( ages 5 and 3 ) TOTALLY enjoyed the pool and the arcade located just nearby. The staff was very helpful and friendly; the room was always made up promtply and we never had a problem with enough towels, soap, etc. The two restaurants were okay, service was somewhat slow (but cheerful) and were always crowed by "outsiders" looking for the all you can eat buffet. We opted for the Perkins restaurant right across the street which was excellent. The bottom line here is that our kids loved the hotel and their stay there and that is ALL that really matters. For working people who can't afford the more expensive resorts in the area I would definitely recommend the Nikki Bird.
Please don't waste your money on this hotel. Even though the kids eat free, there are probably alot of other hotels in the area that offer the same thing AND are clean too!! Our hotel room was just plain dirty. There was dust all over the ceiling and dust hanging off the walls in our kids suite. The bathtub looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. It needs to have a good scrubbing with comet and clorox bleach--it makes me shiver to think of what germs/molds are living there! The bathroom is a little out-dated and needs to be refurbished. CAUTION: When you take a shower, be prepared for burst of extremely HOT water followed by freezing COLD water. Kind of reminds me of growing up and two people couldn't take a shower at the same time in our house. Also, the All You Can Eat Buffet attracts people from EVERYWHERE so be prepared to wait in long lines to get into the restaurant. Just because your a guest at the hotel, this doesn't mean you get preffered seating. And remember this is all you can eat, so you'll be waiting for a long time before these people are finished eating. Before wasting your money, it would be beneficial to research other hotels in the area. If your interested in the KIDSUITE, please be aware that these are JUNIOR size beds. My 7 and 9 yr old kids thought they were too small.
