We took off for Morgan city to visit mr Charlie today, a training facility for oil rig workers. We had a very nice tour guide who shared his opinions about the oil industry.. Very interesting to learn how the semi-submerged oil rigs are setup so they don't move. And all the additional safety precautions that were put into place after the bad oil accident 5 years ago. One example, they are required ...

          Bayou Cane Cafe's Great Adventure

A travel blog entry by bayoucanecafe on Jul 01, 2012

July 1st was our opening day under new management. We had a full house... Shannon did a great job building up the customers of the old Big Eddie's Cafe. Now I just hope I can give the Cafe' the added touch and continue with the southern hospitality Louisiana is known for. If you and yours are ever in Bayou Country, stop by our little family style Coffee Shop and enjoy a great cup of hot coffee, beignets (french doughnuts) and meet some great ...

... better than California—at least there are SOME conservatives in California."

But I had to wonder- did the Stonybrook/LSU game even make the NYTimes? Anyway, an interesting look at perspectives. It reminds me a bit of that classic New Yorker cover showing NY, and the rest of the world stretching in the back, obviously less important. Apparently everyone looks at their world from that perspective--—even in Houma, LA.

          Recession? What recession?

Driving through southern Louisiana, you'd be hard pressed to know the country is in difficult financial times. This part of the country has lots of supply boats that service the offshore oil rigs, and we saw many training centers and billboard after ...
