... of dog swimming - too cold for us but the boys are in heaven. Two days, three nights in Saintes Marie. A much needed rest so lots of beach walks and snoozing in the sun with a good book each and a pitchet of vin blanc. Tomorrow we head for Italy through Aix en Provence and along the coast towards Genoa. Will be very sorry to leave this little place but plan a celebratory farewell dinner of moules frites tonight. ... bought a pass so that we could take our time and visit all of the attractions; the Arena, the Maison Carrée, the Jardins de la Fontaine and in Orange, a short drive away, a Roman amphitheatre.

Exploring the Arena took 3 hours. We ventured in to the centre of the Arena and tried to imagine the roar of a 24,000 strong crowd. We raised our arms and turned a circle to take in the (imagined) atmosphere. I thought the Arena was round but it is oval and ...

... the bulls would have been fought. We walked up the big hill which has a tower on top, it is one of the highest places in the area so you could see around the whole city and surrounding area. I decided to stay near the colosseum for sunset, and it lit up very nicely with a matador statue out front.

... to couchsurf to build up their profile and meet new people while not being left in a city all alone with nowhere else to turn if they felt uncomfortable. I was still able to give them a tour of the city and introduce them to my friends but was also able to go run around and drink with my friends without having someone else with me the entire time like I did last time. It makes planning and organizing a bit easier and all three of us had a really good time.

... with local croissants, sandwiches and of coarse vino, we walked up to stake out our vantage point for the day. I think Laura is really quite taken by the tour. A sport where she can sit in the sunshine all day, reading a book, drinking wine and getting free stuff thrown at her (avoiding the shopping ban).
