Ten days after buying the plane ticket...

I leave for a mysterious journey into the upper reaches of South America - starting in the tropical Bogotá. I almost was able to get a free travel voucher because the flight was oversold. Unfortunately some guy missed his connection and I was forced to boardthe plane. I still would've made the international flight regardless. On the plane it was just alright. The tv sets were messed up and choppy, but at least the music was alright. And the food was nominal. It was pretty much ...

By popular demand...

Hi everyone,
I've had a few requests from people to start a travel blog. I have a trip coming up starting Wednesday night. I'm traveling all the way around the world, first stop: Budapest. Last stop: Seoul.

I promise there will be no lengthy musings or trying to be deep. I'm ...

1st Step to our Big US Adventure

"Welcome to the United States", the US immigration officer said... It was such a balm in our tired bodies and souls, him saying that... The officer didn't know that it was a summation of 9.5hrs waiting for a delayed flight from Cebu to Manila, 1hr flight to Manila, 7hrs manual check-in at NAIA (because of the blackout), 10.5 hrs flight to Minneapolis and now waiting for 6hrs here at the airport for a 1.5hr flight to Winnipeg. So that sums up to--- 35.5hrs ...

Oktoberfest 10 Year Anniversary

Dan and I are traveling to Munich with 16 other friends to attend Oktoberfest on 9/27/09! I had the opportunity to attend Oktoberfest in Munich with Jan, Rachel and KT in 1999 and it was an experience I won't forget! Now, there are many of us going and my first European vacation with Dan.

We depart at 3:10 pm on 9/25 and arrive in Munich at 8:55 am 9/26.

This is just a dream, right?

... to New Zealand.
This summer, I received my acceptance letter for the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. It is the country's oldest college and has over 20,000 students enrolled. It'll be quite a change from UW-River Falls' 6,600 students, but I am looking forward to experiencing college at such a large school.
The hardest thing will be leaving my family and friends again. I was working in ...

Resident Tourist

... the benefit of being pulled off the treadmill... as we are whisking about seeing as many family and friends as we can...

It has been wonderful, yet exhausting as we have couch surfed for over a month... moving from house to house, city to city, State to State in an effort to spend quality time with those loved ones we have not seen for the past two years...

Resident Tourist is a reflection on how I felt while returning to our old ...

Food Failures

... looked at a menu, saw nothing we could eat, and we were about to leave when the General Manager came over. He informed us that they once had a veggie burger, but no one ever ordered it. He also told us that we shouldn’t bother to go anywhere else because they don’t have vegetarians in South Dakota, and all of their restaurants are heavy on meat. He then told us that he would knock a few dollars off of their entrée ...

Minneapolis/Saint Paul

... directions to Nicolette Mall and explained the Minneapolis Skyway system to us. The Skyway system is a pathway that winds through downtown Minneapolis one story above street level. Buildings are connected by glass enclosed pedestrian bridges that cross the streets. The system is eight miles long and inside you'll find something like a mall with stores lining either side and an occasional bank or hotel appearing between stores. I told Anita that ...

Back to big cities

... in her show's opening sequence. I then made my way to the Riverfront, and walked along the banks of the Mississippi River, while following the St.Anthony Falls Heritage trail. This trail explains the history of the city and its beginning as a flour milling leader. Minneapolis is actually the birthplace of General Mills, Pillsbury, and the first radio cooking show, Betty Crocker. At one end of the Riverfront stands the Guthrie Theatre and its endless bridge, a ...

More Target & some organizing

Yes, this time Kia and I hit the Target in Hastings!  There were some different things here that I couldn't live without.  Don't ask me what the items were but I came home with bags and so did Kia.  :-) Once that was out of the way, I needed to organize all the presents I had brought home.  Kia's breezeway looked like a tornado had gone through that space and it was driving me nuts ...
