welcome Home Rally

Welcome Home Rally - Monday 7th July, Holiday Inn Maidenhead In front of an audience of Rotarians and friends - three of us Oonagh, Marco and I presented a resume of our GSE trip to Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Adrian unfortunantely was unable to attend due to illness. There are, amazingly, no photos to record this event. We had a huge collection (too many) slides to present and of course we also had to be Adrian for at least 25% of the time. So we overran. Genrerally I think it was e...

Scoundrels, Stupidity and Singapore

... a rip-off considering how little use the bikes had in those three weeks. After an hour and a half waiting for the boss to arrive and him refusing to offer no more than 30 pounds for each we spent another hour or more driving back to Heathrow. *******s! So we gave the bikes to a local charity shop near the airport rather than let that mob get any more profit from them.
Next adventure: the driver from the car hire company was half an hour late ...

Delicious food and....London

... roti chicken-curry wrap thing and a vegetable samosa. The lady and gentleman running the store were lovely - and spoke English, which raised again the conundrum: which language? Do you speak in French to practice, or let them practice their English? In the end we gave up on our struggling French and wholeheartedly embraced English. They gave us an orange elephant keyring. Next, we wandered through the fish section, and over to where a man was ...

We took the metro to Victoria and then took a train from there to the location we had planned to meet them. However, they were not there. After waitingabout fifteen minutes, we went to the ...

Cattleclass on the new A380 to London

Four hundred and seventy one passengers flew the new A380 airbus the thirteen and half hours to London. It was full to capacity. You'd think they'd round out the number of passengers it can carry to an even number - somehow it seemed disorganized to have a potential load of 471 people. Why not 470? However, even fully laden it is a spacious cattletruck. The seats are configured 3 across and ...

Foggy London and Old Friends

... began to fall apart. I'd been feeling a little ill all day, not helped by all the walking we'd done in the cold and damp. When we got back to our room I began to feel positively feverish, and I slept very badly. We discovered the next morning that the heat setting in the room was up too high, as the weather had been colder in the previous few days. But I was also indisputably sick. Stay tuned for more about Christmas in London....

... really feeling it! Brigand wasn't the best choice - too bitter. Though I did drink it at room temperature and not at the 8 degrees Celsius ideal temperature printed on the label. I should've tried a Rodenbach instead! I almost missed my stop - I wrongly thought that the Brussels Midi station was the central station, when it fact it was the south station. Luckily I read about it in my guidebook just in time to get off ...
