    ... land for rice farming, raising cattle and in the early 1900's, the discovery of oil. This helped the town of Iowa to thrive during the depression. Today, cattle ranching, farming and the oil industry all continue to be a vital part of the towń. No matter where we travel, there is always a story. That's mine, and I'm sticking to it.

    ... stopped at the Louisiana border, I was talking to the ladies when they told me that I10 was stopped in both directions at mm50 because of an overturned truck in the median with suspected toxic chemicals. So I immediately made reservations in Lake Charles and headed there for the night. Traffic is being rerouted, but I was too tired to deal with it today.     First of all Buc-ee's is a Beaver. He is the mascot of a travel stop. There are cool billboard ads leading up to it that say things like, "It's un-beaverable," or "I spy beaver," and who can forget, "Ever have beaver nuggets?" Oh wait, "My overbite is sexy." It's in New Braunfels, look it up. They reputedly have the cleanest bathrooms around. I had to see for myself. I ventured into the large natural stone cavern and saw two attendants, one cleaning sinks, and the other ...

    ... is slim pickins'. Personally, I see why they think this bird was not a Pileated Woodpecker, but I don't think there's enough there to proclaim the return of a bird extinct for more than 6 decades.

    We can always hope, though! I kept my eyes peeled for an Ivory Billed Woodpecker, but no dice. I'm sure if it hadn't been raining so hard....
