... turned out they had no rooms left but...they had a garden with tents, hammocks and even a yurt set up. Unfortunately the yurt was full, however we were content to settle for the relative luxury of a tent with airbeds instead.

On Monday morning Asli dropped me off at the metro station in 4. Levent. The Istanbul metro is new, but somehow the designers were able to capture the gritty feel of the NYC MTA. I don't know how to express it. The station interior is utilitarian, and covered in a fine layer of grime. It is new and old; the look is timeless. When a train approaches, a cow appears on the electronic signboard with the words "the train is cooooming!" Why a cow? No idea.

... the end we discovered large La-Z-Boy-like recliners with built-in back and leg massagers, which did wonders after the long flight. I regretfully had to nearly wake K up when they finally announced a gate for our flight.

Our first full day out in Istanbul took us to the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, which is nicknamed the "Blue Mosque" for the distinctive blue tile that is used inside. The distinctive architecture and designs are incredibly intricate, although many of the designs have deteriorated because they are portrayed in frescoes or made out of a lower quality tile. ... tip) again so I gave her a 2 euro coin (5 Lira) as I wanted to hold onto my Turkish money in case I still needed some. I felt bad that I hadn't given money to people on the streets that actually needed the money as this lady has a job and roof over her head
