Holiday Inn Hotelste Civic Arena Huntington

Riding thru KY is lovely this time of year, great roads, fall colors & the mountains. The clouds rolled in over the mts & Ashland (my destination today) but the forecast holds off on rain for tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Today we left for our vacation out West. We left around noon, we were hoping to leave earlier but the kids got home late from camp, a pipe started leaking in the basement, and we weren't completely packed. Our destination for the night was a camp ground in Frankford, Kentucky, but when it got late, we decided to camp in West Virginia ...

On down the road we went after the meal rolling up and down through the Kentucky country side and horse country. Kentucky is a beautiful drive any time of the year as it always seems green. Ok, we have not been through here in the winter time and not sure we would want to do that as it can get nasty in this part of the country ...

... Kentucky was dedicated to hiking and caving until night fell. We returned back to West Virginia ready to see a bit of Ohio and to experiment with Geocaching, both of which were things I had never done.We tried geocaching in WV as well as in Ohio. Oh, by the way, geocaching is when you place certain coordinates (found online) into a GPS, and then you search the area you are led to for a container. Said container will have a bunch of small trinkets that have been left by other travelers along ...

... t work out how we were going to get out without hitting the ground again. Eventually we decided to go cross country around the back of a recently demolished building next door and then diagonally across the next carpark to where the culvert wasn't so deep and we finally got back on the road. To do so was a mission involving driving over a quite high concrete nib, through some deep puddles and around rocks and bolders.

36 hours from now I'll be on my way. Total distance for the flight there is 9,552 miles and the total duration including connections is 22hr 9mn. That's a long haul. I'll be traveling from Charleston to Detroit, Detroit to Tokyo and Tokyo to Bangkok. I've packed, unpacked and repacked a hundred times in the past few days. My pack ended up being ...

Today's show was at 3:00 in the afternoon. It was a weird time to do a show and we had been driving all day. The drive from Zaleski to Huntington was beautiful winding county roads. Once we arrived in Huntington we found the hotel and checked in at the Red Roof Inn. Ok, so I wouldn't normally brag about staying at the Red Roof Inn, but it was fantastic. The rooms were entirely updated with modern fixtures and everything was super friendly and clean. ... the West Virginia line to Charleston where we stopped for a walk around the Capitol Building grounds and to let Abby play and enjoy a little al fresco milk dinner on the lawn. Then we docked for the night in Ashland, Kentucky where Abby enjoyed playing and kicking in her first motel room ever. Not too many thrills for the day, but we made it and we are even ready for day 2.
