A very quiet and peaceful evening, blessed with no midges as it was cold but this made the skies clearer and the light and colours spectacular. We walked a little, enjoyed our evening meal with some wine and a good, long sleep. En route to Tampere now for a look see and perhaps a shop before we find somewhere for the night, we shall see! ... up that the plane was 'boarding'. I pushed on to the gate only to find another 15 minute wait before the bus came to take us to the plane.
A smooth enough flight on an A320 got us to Helsinki on time. For the first time there was power available on the plane but the socket holder was too small to plug anything into.
Although it was another bus to the terminal it was only a short walk to passport control and ...
... we made our way around, booth by booth, we came across one of the food vendors. Pulled pork, sausage, sauerkraut...yes please. So, there we were with a plate of meat, a pint of beer, and a few hundred happy Finns waiting for the hockey game versus Czechoslovakia to start on the television set up in another booth. Once it started, we were no longer tourists, but part of the frenzied crowd cheering on Finland to victory. Why...this calls for more ...
By Paul I'm now in a smaller city north of Helsinki, called Tampere. It's the home of 2 of Finlands oldest saunas. I've included a photo of 1 I went to, Rauhaniemi sauna. I found that before going into a Finnish sauna it is good to ask alot of questions, the first one being can I keep my trunks on. They said "yes". It was amazing. It had many charming boutiques lining the narrow cobbled streets of the center which we weaved our way in and out of.
