In one area you can watch volunteers digging and separating bone from tar, and then sorting and catalog the specimens. Some pieces were large but many were tiny and required microscopes for viewing. Another interesting display showed a timeline of events at the tar pits. It showed that animals had been falling in up until fairly recent time (5,000 years ...

We phoned a few restaurants around town trying to get a reservation only to find they were booked. We're dressed very casually and wander down to the hotel restaurant. We wind up eating in the hotel restaurant....which has a prix fixe menu for new years eve. It was NOT cheap. But often times, you get what you pay ...

Plus it just make me happy every time I look at it, the cuteness and funny looking factor get me every time. I think it also reminds me of this guy which makes it even better :) I've decided to name him George, or Giorgio if we want to be all Italian about it since it's an Italian car. I still like George better.

A truly wonderful day spent with just the family gathered round. We started the day by opening presents, but did not get around to that until almost noon. The party with family on Rob's birthday kept everyone up until well after midnight, so it was late morning before anyone stirred.

After opening presents and enjoying some great family time filled with ...
