Historical Traveler Reviews of Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Orlando-Universal Stu., Fl
Suites are better than regular rooms
from anonymous.guest
Stayed here for a Universal Orlando vacation during March 2004. Spent the first night in a regular room. It was clean but the extra sink outside of the bathroom was not draining well. Bathroom was small but adequate and everything worked. Water pressure could be stronger. The room faced the pool which at times was loud during evening hours (closes at 10) but it did not bother me too much. Room opened out to a patio but no furniture. Slightly dissatisfied with this room.
The rest of the stay was spent in a 2 bedroom suite. Very satisfied.
Each room had it's own bathroom. Very spacious living area which included a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, silverware, dishes, glasses, microwave, and sofa. We found a supermarket nearby and stocked up to curb some of the food expenses. Daily maid service ran the washer for us. Maintenance was prompt to remedy a plumbing issue despite late hour. Clean and well kept. Bedroom mattresses need to be replaced due to the "side-nearest-phone sag" effect.
Staff was courteous and check-in/out went quickly. Parking is free and though a complimentary shuttle bus is available for Universal, walking is very manageable. It takes about 15-20 minutes from the time you leave the lobby to the time you hit the entrance for CityWalk (depending on how you time the crosswalk lights which can be lengthy).
Parking at Universal if free after 6pm so after refreshing ourselves after the parks, we simply drove back in to enjoy the CityWalk.
Rates were very reasonable (<$60 for regular room, <$120 for the 2BRsuite) and booked through the Holiday Inn Website. I would stay here again if on a budget.

The hotel itself is reasonably clean and comfortable. The staff is helpful and the rooms are a good size. The only problem i had was that they do not offer shuttle service to any of the Dysney parks, and a round-trip cab ride to Disney will cost anywhere around $60 plus tip.
The only shuttle they offer is to Universal Studios, which in my opinion is unnecessary since we were only a 10-minute walk to Universal. In all, the hotel has some good features, but if you are planning on going to DisneyWorld, either rent a car or allow for an extra $65 a day for a cab.
Great location for Universal at a good price!

This a nice hotel with good sized rooms that are very clean. It has a Fridays attached to it so on the days you don't feel like dragging your family out to dinner - it's right there. Located right outside the gates of Universal the location for the price can't be beat. This is a nice Holiday Inn (I've stayed in some sktechy ones) that I would recommend to anyone for a nice basic well priced place to stay.
Good value, clean room

The one bedroom suite is quite spacous and clean. The hotel staff is courteous. We had hoped to use the sofa-bed as there were five in the family. The sofa-bed was very dirty and the springs sacked so badly that it is unusable. Overall a good value if you can take advantage of their discount rates.
Great location, rate, overall great stay!

Great hotel

Great location. The room rates aren't bad either. It's nice to have a TGI Friday's in the lobby. If you are a member of their frequent stayer program you get a suite instead of a regular room for the same price if it's available.
Recent renovations not enough

This hotel had some good points but the room we got was a looser. This hotel is a 15 minute walk to the walkway of Universal Citywalk. The hotel is adjacent to Fridays Resturant. They have free shuttles to Univeral Orlando, Sea World, and the wet and Wild water park. They give you a complimentary copy of the Orlando paper.
This hotel was recently renovated. We got a basic room on the third floor. The non-smoking room we stayed in smelled of musty smoke. The linen was clean and the blankets were new. One pillow was so badly stained that you could see the stains throught the pillow case. The room had a self contained air conditioner which only had one working speed...high. The low button and the high button did not change the fan speed. The air conditioner was loud, we had to turn the volume of the TV to 3/4 max to hear the TV. Fortunately we had ear plugs so we could sleep. The hotel was filled to capacity and no other rooms are available.
Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!

After driving all day, come to find out that are reservation was cancelled. When asked who cancelled? The two women at the front desk just looked at each other and said "we don't know". Called Holiday Inns main number and was told that the hotel cancelled the reservation. It took about 30 - 45 minutes to get some one at the counter to just re-book the room. When checking out the hotel tried to overcharge me $20.00. This took another 20 minutes to figure out This place is just to big for its own good. Think twice before you book here. You have other choices that you would be better off with.
Nice Large Suite

Really nice suite. Lots of room. Two full bathrooms were a real plus.
Good room service. Recommend the baby back ribs. Kids eat for free. The pool was clean and large. Right across the street from Universal studios. The gift shop was reasonable and had good coffee too!
Good hotel for a weekend visit!

If you are planning to visit Orlando for a short weekend and are specifically visiting Universal Studios and IOA this is a good value hotel...Clean rooms, nothing fancy, but clean..Good customer service, and TGI fridays next door for buffet breakfast. Within walking distance to the two parks, but shuttles and cab service readily available. I would go with the cab service, the shuttle was rather slow and you had to wait an hour if you missed one.
