Perfect place to stay if you are going on a cruise or boarding a ferry we were up graded to a room with fantactic views of Genoa and the hardbour. The room had every thing you could wish for and the staff were very accomodating and helpful. The best room we have had on this trip so far.

Casual start to the morning with a croissant and coffee for breakfast, followed by 6 hours walking around Old Town Genoa. The sights around the upper end are much better than the port, we sat on the steps of a church for half an hour and did some people watching.

Huge thunderstorm came in and it poured with rain so we found ...

... 11.00 am and a short 100 m walk from the station and we are at Hotel Europa, undoubtedly the smallest lift I've ever been in. Off load the bags and walk down to Porto Vecchio for a stroll along the front.

They have a replica of the Spanish Galleon "Neptune" sitting in the port, apparently built in 1985 for Roman Polanski's film Pirates. Not much happening on a Sunday afternoon here. Late lunch ...

The weather is finally warm and we had a great afternoon before finding a local supermarket where we got in trouble for not weighing and tagging items such as bananas and other loose veggie items. Not much love for Aussies in that supermarket!

Returned to our unit and the girls (not Jewel) got into washing mode as we finally had ...

... their tour tickets that perhaps this was not the tour for them? That old saying "there's one in every crowd"" applied today. I really had to bite my tongue. I really wanted to ask this woman "What were you thinking? What did you think 'strenuous walk' meant?", but I took the high road...literally, as you can see from the photo! Had I learned about this place a few months before we departed on this trip, I surely would ...

As soon as we arrive in Frankfurt Syd goes to the booking office to get reservations for our trains to Rapallo only to find a similar story - public holiday no seats available on Bern to Milano leg (not even second class). After another 10 minutes huffing syd suddenly vanishes to talk to another booking clerk (female) rather than the first class reservations clerk (male), remembering a similar circumstancce in Vienna last year where the same question to ...
