Perfect place to stay if you are going on a cruise or boarding a ferry we were up graded to a room with fantactic views of Genoa and the hardbour. The room had every thing you could wish for and the staff were very accomodating and helpful. The best room we have had on this trip so far.

We left the hotel at about 08:30 am and made our way to the Rialto Alilugano landing stage. The boat arrived on time and weset off....once again in a sea mist but not as severe as yesterday! Within an hour we were at the airport and soon in our car and on our way west to Savignone. We travel mostly on the autostrada so no photos until we are close to ...

Carbon copy repeat of a previous experience trying to sail into Portofino - rough seas meant it was too dangerous to tender ashore, so instead we docked in Genoa.

Having explored the city on that last visit, we chose to still take a shore excursion to visit the picturesque towns of Sestri Levante & Rapallo

... where a mass was going on - Thursday at 6:00 pm. - and Pam lit a candle for my Mom, our sister and her son. Declan helped her and then we looked at the amazing ceiling through the well placed floor mirror and then headed back out to the little cafe. After much waiting, we ended up ordering some drinks and I saw a sandwich inside that looked good as a snack and so we ordered that. A little while later, we were loaded down with food - a plate ...

... for the next one at Pisa, a double-decker which was pretty full. Finally we caught the Train to Genoa which was a great run passing the huge Carrara hills from where the famous white marble is quarried & then through miles of tunnels right along the coast with stations at irregular intervals with little harbours & beaches. Eventually, none too soon, we arrived at the station, only to find we were on the wrong side of the track but ...

... I would stay for the night as the yacht had to sail to a different town for the day. I was so tired I didn't even care. Looking back, it was a bit sketch. Oops. I got to the hotel, exhausted, but me being who I am did not allow sleep when I had authentic Italian food at my fingertips. I walked around and found a small restaurant down one of the alley ways where I got gnocchi that was divine, fresh bread and olive oil that was amazing. Their house red wine, which is ...
