... the Med before taking us inland and through the olive groves.

On arrival at Portofino we were greeted with a similar village to those in Cinque Terre but not quite as quaint. Not sure what all the fuss is about...Santa Margherita wins our vote.

Back at Scooby for lunch of bbq chicken wraps and biscotti for dessert, then onto the autopista to lovely Lucca.
Santa Margherita Ligure, Italian Riviera, Italy darrenhough74... leaving you with a bright cheery feeling, the sun is shining and there are palm trees everywhere. Anyways back to Genoa the soon to be ground hog's day of our trip. We had checked, checked and double checked our ticket to make sure we knew of any transfers and where they happened. We made sure we were in our rightful seats even we have had to many experiences of getting in trouble for being in the wrong seat and we are tired of playing musical chairs. As we ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy konaduy... the 11C and there aren't any Roman ruins because the Genovans needed to build somewhere so they just built on top of the old stuff! Anyways it is built on a hill and the modern part is at the top and to get there you travel over little tiny streets and even smaller alley like paths where the buildings appear to almost meet at their tops. We also saw the 16th C palaces nearing the ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy mamafeathersDestination 404

km197'196

A wonderful winding route via a inland section have lead me from Pisa to the coastline around Genova. But since in that part of the environment it was very hard to find a spot for bushcamping I took the toll freeway to prevent to get stuck in the chaotic traffic of Genova and headed north into the highlands of the northern region of Genova. A beatiful spot at the top of a mountain has provided perfect views to sunset and sunrise, but a bloody cold night!

Borghetto di Borbera, Piedmont, Italy martinasfamily... trucks, yet the trucks are prohibited from traveling in the fast lane except for passing other trucks. For the most part the trucks are restricted from traveling faster than 80 kilos per hour on the highway (about 50 mph). This creates the threshold speed that the slow lane progresses at. Less trucks on the road can mean that this lane picks up a little. Entering the highway takes a bit of courage. The onramps are short and there is no time ...
Santa Margherita Ligure, Italian Riviera, Italy travelingmoores... we run about 500 metres to our gate. When we arrive, we learn that our flight to Milan is delayed by 20 minutes! We arrive in Milan o.k. and catch the train to Genoa. All we do is sleep since we have rarely slept on the trip. We are met at the train station by our friend Attilio, who informs Ben that his credit card arrived! After several weeks of trying to get his credit card, in the end it beats us to Genoa! We head to Tio's place, which we will be staying at for the next ...
Genoa, Italy cbyung... without the handrails. The trail is very narrow (the average Houstonian would not be able to do it) making it difficult to pass another hiker and unnerving since in places there are steep dropoffs and the footing is always unpredictable. The trail was constantly going up, up and up but provided the most amazing views of Monterosso, Vernazza and the Mediterranean. I knew I would have trouble physically on the trail since I have no push off with my right foot. I'm used ...
Cinque Terre, Italy rnriggins... lush hotel. Air conditioning. Comfortable beds. Queen bed each for author and companion. Ten AM local time met Genovese poet Marcello Frixione. Youthful in attitude, salt/pepper beard. Chews thoughtfully on empty pipe. Acted part of tour guide for author and companion. Visited harbor pier near Aquarium, several churches, palazzi, other points of interest. Stop for ...
Genoa, Italy jcalahan... with TV for anything - everyone in town was glued to the set. Finally decided to sit on waterfront, drink wine, and listen for cheers and or booes as our cues to the game's direction. Watched sun set over the Ligurian hills. When it got dark, decided to see if we could get in anywhere to watch remainder of game. FOund a local pizzeria - tiny tiny place - went in and the owner was nice enough to let a whole pile of us sit and watch the game (only hazard was that he ...
