... sense of belonging is in relationship to others of a similar background."

I am a TCK. My mother was living and working in Zambia when she met my father, and I was raised there until the age of seven when we moved permanently to Canada. The realization came with a chuckle, and my hosts nodding their heads as I described my own experience. “And your choice to live outside your native country is classic TCK behaviour,” said John approvingly. I didn’t know that I ...
Ooty, Tamil Nādu, India darkstar... and he let us in using the biggest skeleton key I’ve ever seen. It was like a movie prop key to the city, made of gray metal rubbed smooth and luminous, which he refused to let us photograph.

We could take pictures inside the church though, and Joseph aimed his impressive Canon digital SLR around the room, while the rest of us wandered respectfully down the aisles and antechambers. It was cool and distinctly old, decorated with intricate stained-glass windows, stunning ...
Ooty, Tamil Nādu, India darkstar... the rest of the places we'd visited. Maybe it was the relentless rain and cold temperatures that made everything and everyone lifeless and grey, but there did not seem to be the optimism and hope that we'd seen elsewhere. And it was the rain that made our first day in Ooty truly miserable. Umbrellas were proving to be useless and 4 inches of rain running through the streets ensured that we were getting soaked from both above and below ...

But after putting our feet and body through ordeal, cold water was bliss, muddy or not. Soaking our poor feet and then splashing and playing gave us all the much-needed relaxation time to unwind and fill our tummies. Also gave
people ample ...

Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, India desh_karthik4th January 2009 Dawarak Tourist Home, Sultans Bathery, Kerala, India Just right Kalpetta - SB (25kms) It's all incredibly busy up here in the hills and because it's the weekend we got a bit concerned about accommodation at Gudular so decided to go the very short distance to Sultans Bathery instead. Even at 10am we had to try several places before we managed to find one that wasn't full. Our intention was to go to Ooty tomorrow, and according to our maps (both ...
Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, India 50odd... calmer and had such nice scenery. I would love to go back. When visiting the tribe it was nice to try and converse with them. They speak their own language within their tribe. They are very friendly and the children were so excited to see us. I gave them pens and a notebook as they live far from the village.
Ootacamund, India sam222Mysore was just amazing. I managed to find Gringo HQ on the second day - a really nice restaurant called Parklane with a "ladies and families" area upstairs. This is note 6 from the back of their menu - "Disposable vomit bags are available on request in case of need as a consideration to fellow diners. Note: It is best to avoid excess drinking. There is always a next day to enjoy the drink" The so called 4* star hotel was ...
Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, India valetroy... was very well chosen because the guest house looks over the lake. At least it is a better name than some of the hotels we encountered. One was called "Anus Hotel" and boasted (honestly!!) a '24-hour room boy service'. We checked into our room which was bright and reasonably clean and headed for the Tourist Information centre (who don't have any maps, just a brochure about the surroundings of Ooty. Because Vishnu lived in Coimbatore (and not ...
Ooty, India thorgal67... the use of the body, then moving on to other stages (pranayama - contoling hte breath, then vital energy, then meditation...) In the course I was exposed to some very interesting spiritual concepts as well as challenged to add a huge amount of discipline to my mind at a time when I want to be roaming free...so it was really challenging to stay focussed during the course, and for the first time that I can remember, I don't think I was a fantastic ...
