After brekkie it was onto Menton which is a lovely little town just before the Italian border. Menton is a much more down to earth place than its neighbours and more our scene. We found a park right on the beach and went for a wander and took in sum much needed sun. Next stop Italia!!
Menton, Provence, France darrenhough74Up early as it was a spectacular sunrise - full of pinks and organges. We wanted to hit McWifi before we entered Italy but we did not find one until later in the day in Menton. Before that we drove the coast road through Nice and Monte Carlo, both concrete ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco darrenhough74... wine bottle and then we thought they were off on the trail, but no they got in the car and drove on!
At the end of the gorge we joined the road towards Cannes, which was route Napoleon, orginially created by him as a pass through the mountains...very windy. Our destination for the evening was Grasse where we found a good park overlooking the city lights and our first view of the Med.
Grasse, Provence, France darrenhough74... Sailboats were docked at the marina (knez, it made me think of you). Diane ordered mussles and Jon and I had our first mussels ever. They were delicious. Thank you Diane for helping me discover my love for sea food. St-Tropez was further than we thought, but thank god we ...
Cannes, Provence, France sofenjonWe were so excited to have another person travelling with us, that our time spent with Diane was mostly fighting over her for her attention and trying to get her to side with one of us. She was definitely a good friend to both of us ( and didnt favor me, which I thought she should have ...
Nice, Provence, France sofenjon... the Grimaldi family. And where Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly joined in marriage in St. Nicholas Cathedral. In the square of Monaco-Ville, the Royal Palace could be found. From here, you could see all the districts of Monaco including Fontevielle, La Condamine and Monte-Carlo. Not to mention the breathtaking view of Port Hercules, more commonly known as the Port of Monte-Carlo! Here you could see the ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco ricknelsie... immed usher us into a boat.

It is the funniest thing I have seen. The boat is whipping around the Mediterranean and my child is holding on for dear life. Worst case, he falls into the ocean and has some embarrassment. Parker chants thank God I did not do this. I almost lose my camera off the boat. Man apologizes to me for wait, think he fearqs another wild rant. He says he will give Alex an extra long ride. I ...
Cannes, Provence, France cainteam... takee-outee. And I'm warm for the first time in months. This is the French Riviera, deluxe apartments lining the beach and yachts lining the coast. There's even a section for 'historical' boats, sailing rigs from times gone by, still ready to work, the teak only growing more beautiful with age. When I'm not in my room booking my June Scandinavian trip by Internet, I take long walks on a beach that extends to the horizon, punctuated by rocky ...
Cannes, Provence, France hardiek... in fairly good condition. The art ranged from modern to surrealism, and from realism to romanticism, to paintings to sculptures, all done by local artists either from Cannes or from the surrounding area. After talking with some of the artists and purchasing some pieces for myself (their art wasn't that expensive but not bad) I went over to a sandwich shop to eat my lunch. After eatting my sandwich and sipping a little of ...
Cannes, France swisherd... was really refreshing to see locals of all ages and color, as opposed to the gazillions of tourists that are typically all over town. One thing that still happens no matter where you are in the world--a cell phone went off in the middle of the service! Yesterday I had another fun experience of a concentrated dosage of French--watching the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Or should I say, Les Pirates (say pee-RAHTS) des Caraibes. It was completely ...
