Historical Traveler Reviews Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Detroit-Dearborn
Nice But Not Exceptional
We stayed at this hotel as part of a hockey team for a tournament we entered (and won!). This means several other hockey teams also booked this hotel. It was also the weekend for the Nation Of Islam annual Saviours' Day Convention which drew 50,000+ people. Needless to say, this hotel was busy, busy, busy!!
Check-in was exceptional. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful (not to mention professional). Very impressive!
We found our room with no difficulty. It was easily accessible from the main lobby or side door entrance. The room was well-appointed and comfortable. It was clean with the exception of the coffee pot which was dirty and had a used coffee pod in the filter basket. It was also oddly placed next to the television in the amoire which made it difficult to see to pour in water (no light). I ended-up moving it to the ample bathroom counter.
The next disappointment was with the lack of bedding for the pull-out. We had to call to have a blanket delivered.
The biggest disappointment was, as earlier reported, the thin walls. Each hallway conversation was easily heard, as well as any activity in the ajoining room. On such a busy weekend, it was nearly impossible to achieve decent sleep.
We did not receive maid service on the second day.
Although we did not take advantage of the pool, it appeared extremely small for such a large hotel.
Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel if given a reduced rate. The rate of $149, however, is a bit high for what is really just an average hotel.
Comfiest Beds!! Paper thin walls!
I brought my husband to stay in Dearborn for the Auto Show in Detroit last weekend.
The warm cookie gets me everytime, seriously its SO GOOD!!
Check in process went fine. Our room was quite a hike though, but not that big of a deal.
The room was very clean and there are like 10 pillows on the bed!! Comfiest beds!! Everything worked fine, they had a really cool looking alarm clock but I didn't need to use it.
We got the "Dream Deal" package which included breakfast in the restaurant near the lobby which was AWESOME! They had everything from fruit to french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, rolls, etc. It was quite nice.
Our only complaint was the noise. We were roomed right next to a group of high school wrestlers who stayed up way past midnight. We called the front desk at 12:30am and we actually heard the woman knock on the door next to us and ask them to be quiet. We could hear her!! They said they would quiet down, but of course that only lasted a few minutes. We finally decided to try to ignore them, but didn't get to sleep until after 1am.
Check out process was fine... they were supposed to leave a receipt under the door in the morning for fast checkout but they didnt so we had to go down to the front desk to check out (which was on the way out the door anyways).
Overall the hotel is beautiful and plush and we'd probably stay here again with the request to be roomed near older or quieter people.
Staff make this hotel a good choice!
Stayed at this Doubletree hotel for one night while visiting Detroit.
Staff: As mentioned in previous reviews, the staff was great! Upon check-in, the front desk staff came out to greet me, gave me a run-down of the hotel features, and showed me how to get to my room.
Location: Very convenient to the Southfield and I-94 freeways. Numerous restaurants near the hotel. There is a Chilis and Wendy's within walking distance, right across from the hotel parking lot. It was only a 10 minute drive from DTW. The hotel does not have a free shuttle.
Room: As a HHonors Diamond member, I was upgraded to a king bed suite. The room was very nice and included a whirlpool tub. All the furnishings and tvs were new, along with the Sweet Dreams bed. The only complaint about the room was that the A/C was very noisy. Wireless internet access was very reliable and fast .. it is free for Diamond members. It is quite a walk from the front desk to the room, as you have to pass a massive lobby and meeting rooms just to get to the elevators. However, the hotel offers many entrances. To get to your room, you need to enter your key card in the elevator .. a nice safety feature.
Food: Ordered room service for breakfast. Was prompt, but for some reason it was cold. Could have been better. The restaurant looked nice, but did not get to visit it.
Atmosphere: Lobby was extremely spacious with small waterfall and many tables and couches. However, the hallways leading to the rooms were dark .. there were not many people staying at the hotel (probably because over a holiday weekend) and thus it had sort of a "cold" / deserted feel to it.
Pool: Did not get to use it, but it looked nice.
HHonors benefits: As mentioned above, did recieve free wireless internet for the stay along with a coupon for a free breakfast in the restaurant. There is no exec lounge or exec floor on this property.
During my stay, I received a call to make sure everything was ok with my stay. Upon checkout, I received a personal email from the front desk manager thaking me for staying at the property and to email her if with comments. I did not encounter one employee during my stay who didn't have a smile on their face.
Overall, I thought this was a nice looking hotel with very comfortable rooms (minus the noisy A/C unit). The friendly and professional staff really make this a great place to stay. I would definitely stay here again while in the Detroit area. I'm hoping the hotel will consider adding shuttle service from DTW in the near future.
I have stayed at this hotel twice so far for business and am going back soon. Not only is the hotel clean and recently re-done. The food at the hotel restaurant is actually good and the manager & front desk staff exceeded my every expectation.
This is a newly renovated hotel, that deserves a 10 for so awesome! It is very elegant in the lobby, I love the grounds, and the decor is sophicated with earth tones throughout the building, they have 8 or more ballrooms, indoor/out pool, tennis courts, gym. Lovely, friendly hotel staff, great security because I personally saw him making his rounds and checking in with his scanner at his stops. Great location, resturants close by, and shopping too! The family loved the warm fresh cookies, very moist! Yum!! The rooms are very clean and mildew free in the bathroom, new shower curtains and granite tops are beatiful. The best is the beds! Oh gosh they were so comfortable and plush with tons of pillows to sleep on! I will definately stay here again, and again when I visit the Detroit areas!
Great Atmosphere, clean, Great Restaurant
Had a nightmare stay at Residence Inn next door to Doubletree in Dearborn, basketball court keep me awake all night, people playing past 12 pm. Next day checked in to Double Tree Dearborn. Wow, great atmosphere, new upgrade in January, used to be Holiday Inn. Very clean, front desk VERY helpful! Restaurant is WONDERFUL great selection not your basic run of the mill menu. Wireless web connection GREAT. This will be our hotel of choice when we come back next time. Staff works hard to earn your RESPECT!
I have been a regular guest at the Holiday Inn for many years on business travel. The property went through a nice upgrade a few years back, but still could use a little work in the rooms. They are clean and efficient, just not a lot of style. I continue to stay there for one reason...The employees. At McKennas Restaurant on site, the folks have made me feel like family. Pam, Bobbie, and Paula are incredible hosts and just all around good people. The folks in the front of the house have been very responsive to any service requests. I don't often stay at Holiday Inns, but this one has won my loyalty.
I was very happy with the accomodations at this Holiday Inn. Service was very friendly. The restaurant was also very good. I didn't spend much time at the hotel because I was there for business. But I would definitely recommend ths facility. It seemed as if the staff had exteneded training in hospitality language.
Very convenient to Henry Ford Museum
During a recent trip to Detroit we took advantage of the Holiday Inn Fairlane's Henry Ford Museum package. This package included our room and four tickets (2 adult, 2 children) to either Henry Ford Museum or Greenfield Village each day. A very good hot breakfast buffet was also included. The hotel is well kept and features both an indoor and an outdoor pool as well as 2 hot tubs and a workout room. The location couldn't have been more convenient for our visit--just a couple of miles from the front entrance to Greenfield Village. We had an excellent visit and would strongly recommend this hotel.

Welcome back fellow adventurers and avid adventure followers ! It has been quite a while since we've last met here. If I recall I had just left the land of blistering heat, incomparable natural beauty and some really crazy adventures. We met my longtime friends Michelle and Pat as well as many new friends such as the flattulating bus companion, my old dysenteric friend Africa Ass, the always lovable and affable Irish traveling companions. ...
One of the reasons we rambled through Niagara Falls was to visit our friends Mark and Margo in their new home located in the sun belt of Kingsville, Ontario. Surrounded by tomato greenhouses and apple orchards, this is the most southerly tip of Canada and it is a beautiful little town perched on the banks of Lake Erie. They say they were tired of shovelling snow 5 times a day at their lake home near Sudbury ...
... from the 1920's to mid-1960's. Combined with the creative and artistic output of Motown, this place was the city of dreams, where men had jobs for life, housing was cheap and everything was on the up.......now magnificent art deco buildings with tile facades stand boarded up and covered with graffiti, alongside empty office towers and warehouses. I wasn't surprised to see tumbleweed.
To me this city is the ...
... our jet lag on the front end. We are driving a rental car from Detroit to Chicage O'Hare for our evening departure to Europe. We first have a long layover in Dublin (hoping to leave the airport for lunch in a nearby town and visit a ruined castle) before the short-haul flight to Malaga, Spain. This will be an interesting experience as we typically try to do direct flights - but we saved a ton of cash this way - wish us luck in our airline adventures today !
