Mike and I were up early. In fact, the first ones to HI Express breakfast which began at 6:30 this Sunday morning.

It had rained earlier in the morning, but had stopped. Our hope was it would not rain any more for the next 3-4 hours.

We drove the 10 minutes to the course called Timber Banks Golf Club and Marina. It's located …

Drove straight up to Maggie and Brian's cottage in northern Vermont. Sun shining brightly but deceptively - it was 4deg. The cottage is right on the shore of Echo Lake ( not the same one we saw yesterday - that was south). M & B come here from Montreal, takes about 2 & half hours. Drove a beautiful route north from Springfield through Hadley, Sunderland and Millers Falls. Farmland with New England timber houses either side ...

We would return if in the area. They do take reservations for a number of the sites but in the Fall, unless it is a weekend, it is not needed. The trees had started to turn so it was a beautiful looking out over the ponds with the birds and ...

... boating accidents which they ignored! Unfortunately it was as we approached the middle of the lake that the boat decided to conk out. Sh...t what do we do now! What I would later reflect is that in a crisis rather than banding together we all screamed and blamed each other! When we finally drifted up to the other side of the lake Freddie and I were able to get out and clamber barefoot up the bank (our flip flops were on the jetty!) In the process I managed ...
