... 5 of these missions, built in the early 1700s, along the San Antonio River. Spanish priests established these missions to extend Spain's dominion northward from Mexico and to convert and educate the native population. We visited, in addition to the Alamo, the Concepcion, the San Jose, the Espada, and the San Juan missions -- unbelievably old missions that still hold church services on ...

      Travel Day

... go grocery shopping once we arrive at our destination. So off we went. Driving north on 281 we ran into the usual traffic, but it seemed we were making good time. About Bulverde, I heard Bob say "****" and "we have no brakes" the "low brake fluid light" came on and by the time we could slow down enough to pull off, we could smell the brakes. As luck would have it, we had stopped by a Velaro with a Jiffy Lube type place beside it. We got out, dropped the hood, finally located ...

... dropping. Got down to 27 degrees that night. The views were awesome tho. The place was the start of the Texas Hill Country and we had a spectacular sight of about 10 miles of it.

Foregoing breakfast we headed out early the next morning none the worse for wear. The hill country is like it says, hilly, and curvy, and beautiful. We enjoyed our ride thru and later in the day we were back in the desert type terrain. When I steer the motorhome ...

      Upgrade #1

... we opted for the upgrade. We got back to "G/G" and it took a grand total of about 30 minutes to remove the old toilet and place the new one. The hardest part was lining up the holes with the screws. Since there a rubber gasket instead of a wax ring, we didn't have to spend any time cleaning the wax off of everything. It is white instead of "bone" (since I thought the bathroom was white) but I bought a brown seat cover and it tones the white down.

      Wow, what a ride!

... though the car was a "disaster", there was just no use in letting it upset my day. Things have a way of working out really well when we get our mind/spirit in a good place and stay there.

I rented a really nice vehicle, Dodge Grand Caravan and all my stuff fit in even better than the Tracker and I got terrific gas mileage too. Spent less than $200 on the entire trip on gas.
