For the last weekend in September, Sandy and I headed up to Blacksburg, Virginia for Casey and LeAnna’s wedding. We left very early Saturday morning so we could get a couple waterfalls on the way up. We got off I-77 near Bland and headed into the Eastern Divide Ranger District of Jefferson National Forest, stopping along Forest Road 201, Dismal Creek Road. From here, it was less than a tenth of a mile down Dismal ...

... road system up and down. When we approached a sign for Rocky Mount it seemed a good idea to follow it, it wasn't! The road took us back down to a large freeway with a sign saying Rocky Mount 35 miles. There wasn't an obvious way back, so the 'girlfriend' had to be coaxed into giving us some idea back to the parkway. When we eventually rejoined, we journeyed north and continued our stop-start tour. There were many more overlooks to see until we ...

... that a jogger had been attacked on Sunday. Of course sadly this was not an uncommon occurrence whether you are in America, England or Australia. As they said on the television the next day "just another chancer who has ended up in the County Jail"! We completed the route and returned to the town, the time now nearing 2pm. Obviously, 'Flan****ns' had an obvious calling, we entered and found ourselves the only customers. The beer still tasted nice ...
