We entered Texas today--our sixth state this trip--and stranded in Pecos in the northwestern part of the Lone Star State. Pecos, as drab as it looks, it is in fact going through an oil boom ("2nd-fastest growing small town in the country"). A few anecdotal observations: (1) Our Matrix looks tiny compared ...

      Pecos, Odessa Tx.

It's been 18 years since our Odessa Tx drama. Now, we are passing through for the first time since that dramatic, yet humorous night back in August of 1995. We stopped in Pecos, TX which touts itself as the home of the first Rodeo. The countryside is vastly different from the Big Bend country we came from as there are no mountains or hills. This is oil country and everyone around here works for the oil industry it seems. Interesting place and just another short stop along our ...

Feb 11 – Needles, CA to Benson, AZ

With intent to drive as far as we could on our long drive to Fort Worth, we departed Needles early. The skies were cloudy and soon turned to misty rain with dropping temperatures. Not very good sight seeing weather. However most of the interesting topography was all over by the time we got to Parker, AZ, driving a narrow two lane highway about 60 miles south of Needles. After that ...
