Silverton is a great little town nestled in the Rockies but at something like 2800 metres above sea level, many of us were suffering with a bit of altitude sickness overnight - two of our party feeling quite ill. Most of us couldn't climb the two flights of steps to our hotel bedroom without gasping for air.

... gas-station where we asked this girl by the counter for directions. Apparently the closest motel is about 14 miles / 22 km from here, in the town of Stratton so that's were we are heading now. 10.02 pm Okay so we just arrived a Best Western motel where we checked in. Wow! 3a.m. we woke to a wild thunderstorm. One thunder clap scared the lights out of me. Needless to say we didn't sleep well, at least Mark and I didn't. Between the rain on the roof, the wind blowing branches on the windows, the thunder and lightening and the mosquitos- I couldn't sleep. Limon is Spanish for lemon which is funny as there are no lemons growing here - despite the great soil and abundance of other fruit due to the great volcanic soil! Costa Rica is the world's 2nd largest banana producer (Ecuador = 1st) and the world's largest fresh pineapple supplier - ie not canned.
