I spent close to two hours reading my way through this exhibit.       Onwards and eastwards my next stop was Abilene, a small historic town with a number of claims to fame. Abilene was the terminus of the Chisholm Trail on which cattle were driven north from Texas to the railroad in Abilene in the late 1860s and early 1870s to be shipped to Chicago. An estimated 5 million head of cattle reached Abilene over several years, and the large number of cowboys at the end of the trail made Abilene one of the wildest towns in the West for a few years.
