Middle of nowhere...pretty spooky no ranger, no campground host, no information or directions posted except don't shoot your guns and keep your dog on a leash. So we stayed couldn't figure out where or pay or how much so Grady asked another camper and they said they thought it was free. The camp was called water canyon and was next to an observatory. And thirdly, the town ...

... and I headed south toward the University. We did however, make a quick pit stop in the town of Los Lunas, just outside of Albuquerque to get lunch at the town's Sonic! Being from Washington State where it seems to be in a constant rain storm, we don't really have any Sonics, and I've already seen three! After our quick lunch break we headed onward to Socorro, which is about 75 miles south of Albuquerque.

    While driving ...

... and patch at the gift shop then went for a second walk out to the telescopes. Couldn't help feeling giddy about the fact that I was standing in the same spot that Carl Sagan had, that he saw these mighty machines too, with the same mountain back drop, and would have driven through Socorro and Magdalena to get here back then too. The astronomy was cool but the link to Sagan was supreme. We headed on to Albuquerque next...
