... families. With this being our last day in San Diego we decided that the zoo was the best thing we could see with so little time. This turned out to be the perfect call, with Abbie in particular ecstatic at the abundance of pandas, polar bears, lions and especially Elephants. Although the snakes were not a favourite of ours! We only had a day in the city popularly nicknamed by Ron Burgundy the star of "Anchorman," as a whale's "private parts." It sits close to the border of Mexico where many tourists cross over into the Mexican city of Tijuana. ... seeing animals in the what I took to be small enclosures is a little depressing. The areas for the big cats was rather small. Even the elephant and rhino area. ... and big water-drop in one, so that the boys could get it out of their systems. This took a while because they were having some difficulty with the ride, so they kept stopping it. Better that they fix the problem, but kind of annoying when you only have limited time.

There is a whole section devoted to the Arctic, where we had the option of taking either a simulator, or non-motion helicopter ride to get to the ‘base’. I thought this exhibit was really well ...

Day 97 Set off from Palm desert, stopped at lake Poway and did the mount Woodson hike (6.4m) To potato chip rock. After lake Poway, the trail is up, up, up until the summit, gives a good workout, should probably have started earlier when not so hot, but drank plenty of water and took a few breaks in shaded areas.
