    ... at about mile 8 we started to give out - it was hard work! I had read on the internet that the Lower Loop was 9 miles, but something was telling us that could not be right, given where we were.     ... too exciting), then just walking around, then to the Menger hotel where we looked around in the lobby - interesting photos on the walls, etc. The Menger bar is where Teddy Roosevelt hung out in the day and recruited his Rough Riders - it really is a pretty bar, with all of the dark wood. We had a drink and then headed back to the hotel - it was Shark Week on TV, so we watched Jaws II, went to bed, and had nightmares.

    We could see sightseeing boats pass by and we thought that this would be a great way to get an overall view of the area and also scope out places to eat, since lunch was coming up. As we walked to the place where the boats boarded, I commented that the area reminded me a bit of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The water was rather brown and as we found out on our tour, not very deep.

The lady letting people in told me that it's not uncommon for there to be a 3 hour line. Inside they had some cool artifacts: Davie Crockett's wallet and vest, Jim Bowie's original knife, the original doors to the compound, and General Travis's shaving blade.
