Old and in need of refurbishment

This place is old and in need of refurbishment. The lady who checked us in was pleasant to deal with, so that's a plus. There's a huge HUGE Walmart a mile down the road - very interesting experience shopping there as we're visitors to the USA.

... the fort from US Army. Fort Pickens was one of the few Southern forts to remain in Union hands for the entire war.

It was a beautiful day for a drive. It’s several miles from Pensacola Beach were we’re staying. The sand is bright white and forms dunes with a small amount of vegetation. The beach is smooth with few shells. There were times as we drove along we could see the Gulf of Mexico on one side and ...

After the gardens, we planned to spend the day in historic Mobile. That was not what we expected either. What was once Dauphin Street with antique shops and neat shops is now a lot of bars and restaurants. The nightlife must ...

Time to explore downtown Pensacola. A cold front is moving through. Wind gusts are 15 – 20 mph. It's cloudy now, but with a promise of sunshine later.

There are whole sections of downtown Pensacola that have been or are being preserved. Parts of the town remind me of Charleston or New Orleans with balconies facing the bay and lots of wrought iron railings. The Palafox Historic District is one that has retained its historic atmosphere. ...

... just like it. There are airplanes hanging from the ceiling, planes on the floor, parts of planes, engines from planes, models of planes, and artwork about planes. There are whole bridge sections of aircraft carriers and models of carriers. Space modules and landing craft are on display since the Navy had pilots and astronauts. There are a lot of oral history videos about sailors and their officers which are really good. One section of the wall ...

... fun. So we got to the hotel in Pensacola and met downstairs and walked the short distance to the bowling alley. We bowled 2 games and mostly sat around and talked and laughed. Again, it was a fun crew and we just all got along really well. The captain, Art, nicknamed us 3 girls Artie's Angels (like Charlie's angels). After we ...
