Laredo

... doctors, opticians and especially drugs. The street was full of little shops and items of souveneirs, full of people, both tourists and Mexicans, walking from one place to another. The sweltering heat (40 C), almost impossible to go very long without going into shops to cool off, some only with fans.
After lunch in a typical Mexican restaurant in the area and buy some souveneirs, walking back to USA on Rio Grande.

When a tire blows - you stop!

Monday the 13. We had to get up early in the morning to pack. We brought stuff from the house to the motor home. We stopped doing that at 1:30. When we left, we got on highway 83.w. We had a blowout on highway 83n. We heard a lot of noise and the rv started to shake. We waited 3 to 4 hours on the side of the road and the temp was 110*. Papaw brought out chairs and we sat in the shade of ...

The Day Before...

Its 6:15 PM, and our bus is about to depart for Queretaro, where we will connect to another bus or taxi onto San Miguel de Allende. I was surprised at how easy it was to get across the border. Karen and I went to the Mexican Consulate in Laredo to get our permisos. After eating lunch with my folks, we went to International Bridge #1 where we walked across with our luggage. Once across, we went into the immigration office to pay the fees for the permiso and then walked a few ...

Cristmas '07

... last minute Christmas rush, provisioned up and headed to the Casa Blanca State Park. Very close to to the City, the park had a lot of full time residents taking up all the prime spots. We put the boat in the water and tested out the motor, she ran like a dream. We talked about leaving Christmas eve because the site we had was pretty ****** and not level, but while James and I were out fishing in the boat ...

Leaving Laredo

7/21/2007 Paul came by about 8:30 and we loaded up my gear and went back to his house to load up the two pretty bikes in the back of his truck. The other three bikes were already loaded on the trailer. It was lightly raining and we lucky to get the motorcycles up into the truck bed without 400 pounds of British iron falling on one of us. We finally pulled away from Paul's house around 10am and headed up I-35 to US83 that goes ...

Saturday Round One

... Section two was even worse as I stalled the bike and took a five on a section I should have been able to clean. I finally made my first clean of the day on section three. "Thanks, I really needed that", I told the judge as he punched my score card. I was feeling better now, but stalled the bike again on section four. Things weren't looking so good now! I turned in a good ride on section five and told the judge, "Consistency is not my middle name!" Six was down in the dry creek bed as was ...

Day Twenty-Nine

... outside every shop stamped "Made in Taiwan." While I would love to think my new blankets were hand made by a little old woman in an adobe hut, something tells me they were made by a little old woman running a hundred electric looms in some slum in Taipai. No matter, a few cervezas and I'll be able to convince myself that I craftily obtained a couple of real Mexican artifacts once owned by a relative of Pancho Villa no less.
