Nu börjar det!

Go morron!

More relaxing days in Mexico city....

... lake of the same name into a series of canals supplying water to fertile gardens or chinampas. It's a nice place to hire a boat for an hour or two and travel the canals. As it was not the weekend, it was much more peaceful that usual, but there were still mariachi bands asking me if I wanted a cancion (song) and food hawkers - all in colourfully painted punts (but a world away from Cambridge)....I finally bought myself a wide ...

Matamoras Day Trip

... treated with a mini tour of parts of Matamoras. Traffic was horrible at 5:00 as you might imagine, and our trip was made that much worse by a lack of gasoline. Ever stalwart, Chuey kept at the started on the bus and we limped into the gas station. In minutes we were walking up the bridge to our wonderful country. Many people were coming back on the walk way the wrong direction. Maureen pointed ...

Lucha Libre

... balcony seating and circles around the top of the arena. The logistics of every fight are similar. There are two teams, the technicos and the rudos. The technicos are the precision fighters, the good guys, the rudos are the cheapskates who throw punches and kicks when the referee´s back is turned. The team who wins the best of three rounds is the winner, and rounds are ended ...

Merida and Playa Del Carmen

... as well. Merida also didn´t have alot to offer, although Alex the Californian seemed to take a fancy with the Local Pub, having put 300 pesos over the bar and drinking by himself till the early hours of the morning. Day 16 - Chitzen Itza Today we went to see the Mayan Ruins of Chitzen Itza, otherwise known as Chicken Pizza to alot of Americans as our Tour Guide informed us. We were amazed at the size and intelligence of the Mayan ...

Pancho and I

After the 24/7 chaos of Mexico City, I was definately ready for some cobblestone-street, local-characters, clear-air highland action. San Miguel de Allende was recommended to me by Gustave, a waiter at a cafe in DF who started up a conversation (a Spanglish combination of my awful Spanish and his only slightly better English) after he noticed I was reading his favourite book, the ultimate loner`s tale Catcher in the Rye. San Miguel had a huge influx of ...

Mexico City

... 2nd). As a result the main squares and public areas are not the wide open plazas we expected to see! There´s still loads to see and we take in the Teocalli of Tenochtitlan and the Templo Mayor where the Aztecs believed the centre of the universe was. We spend the day strolling through the zona historic. A visit to Mexico City would not be complete without seeing Teotihuacan (teh-oh-tih-wah-kan). It is simply awesome ...

Distrito Federal aka Mexico City

... trains today were lined with photos of human fetuses at different stages of development, microscopic organisms, and various reptiles, mammals, and birds. One section was dark and the ceiling had images of the major constellations. I´m surprised by the public luxuries in this city. The food is very good and inexpensive. The computer keyboard is confusing. Hasta la vista!

... a tip on eating mango by the way. Get your mango, ripe to softish to the touch. Wash. then squash it and knead it until the flesh is pulped (inside) - so you should now be holding a sack of mango juice and pulp, with the skin as the sack. Cut a smallish hole in the skin at the top and suck noisily and messily - delicious! Anyhow - the tacos were great - had those pretty much every lunch time. Evening meals were very often tortillas, eggs (a mix between scambled ...
