On to Moncton

Monday, September 7 – To Moncton N.B.... Following an early "continental" breakfast, whose sole merit was that it was free but still way too dear, we were on the road again. At Riviere-du-Loup the Trans Canada Highway dives to the south east and, symbolic perhaps for the disdain of Quebec for the impoverished economy of New Brunswick, becomes a two lane highway virtually all the way to Edmundston. After a thousand kilometers of divided highway driving where staying in visual sight of ea...

Schnee

Brrrr......kalt! Einen Stopp legten wir am Cape ...

Big fans of train travel, they have made many trips by rail across this country over the years.

Following our walk, we spent a quiet evening reading in our musty, crooked little B&B and despite a few misgivings, are happy to report it was ghost-free!

Day 18 - Moncton, NB to Charlottown, PEI

... to a feast ! Angus and Olivia were so eager to try lobster ! Angus ate more of Coralyn's steak however Olivia loved it all ! It was a 5 course meal and the kids were excited about that and the homemade pie afterwards ! On the road to St. Ann's we had seen a sign on the road which read The Sky Family perform"fiery faith and fiddles" . We only had a short time before night fell but we drove up the red dirt road to a big wooden ...

Moncton - Hopewell Rocks

... What an amazing natural phenomenon. I am so proud to say that I live in a country that claims such natural wonders. We walked along the ocean floor at low tide but it was coming in, and fast. Jeremy nearly got stranded on a rock with the speed of it. My only complaint is the sheer number of people! It was impossible to take pictures. It was like the shopping mall on Chrsitmas Eve. The souvenir shop was even worse. It was about a 1km trek down down down to ...

... a distinctive part of Canada. We stayed for about 2-3 hours, long enough to notice a distinctive change in the water level; the sandbars that were visible when we got there were long gone by the time we left, as the water was actually lapping around the bottom of the flowerpots. Back in Moncton, we saw a bit of street music as part of the seafood festival, and had a delicious lobster dinner.

... and picked up the rental car without a problem.

We found out just a few days before going to Moncton that there was an annual seafood festival going on at the time of our visit - quelle bonne surprise! Spent most of the day shopping and walking around downtown Moncton (which is not very big). The 'festival' mostly consisted of cooking demonstrations/tastings at various points around the city, as well as ...

... Moncton. Short stop at the optical allusion of Magnetic Hill and then stop at the Moncton University for accomodations and to let everything dry. We drive out to Hopefall Rocks where the greatest tide change occurs - 45m differnce. It is high tide and rainy so we skip the Fundy Ntnl Park and go back to Moncton. Main street for a pub crawl. Finish at Navigators, cool pub with scooners!!

... of the French and Indian War (about 1760) hence the derivation of the Louisiana French term "Cajun" (from the dialectical pronunciation of Acadien). We then headed back into Nova Scotia. We are staying at a little motel, right on the Tidal Bore junction. And at 7pm we waited to see the tide come in. Boring you think, well the bore is actually a wave that rushes up the Salmon River twice a day. You could hear it before you saw it.
