Day 35 Sunday 5th July. La Crosse to Champaign, Ilinois, 382 miles
It's going to be a hot one today and we have finally lost all that smoke from the wildfires, so plenty of glorious sunshine look forward to.
A ride in two halves today.
We start with a lovely 150 miles or so, following the mississippi along the the Great River Road to Prairie Du Chief, Lancaster, Dubuque, Bellevue and Clinton. ...
It's the 4th July! Lovely 95 miles today. Perfect temperature and flat landscape mostly consisting of corn and soya beans
Kettie and I cruised along, stopped for pizza at Pizza Hut watched Murray win his Wimbledon game.
Discovered strawberry bread at SAG. Life changing.
Fun dinner. Guessing are fireworks tonight but no-one able to stay up for the 9.30-11 celebrations!
... Central Gulf Railroad and runs through both Normal and Bloomington. It was a beautiful evening with temps in the upper 50s although it felt markedly colder because of the wind (I do feel like a spoiled Californian here as I keep complaining about how cold it is, while everyone around here is just happy it's not like -14). I went for an easy 4 miler, and it felt good to burn some calories and get my runner's high back. Martha did the walk and we managed to take our one ...

... went together and upon return to Harvey we discovered he had put himself to bed and locked is out! After a moment of panic we remember that the windows were open and the screens can also open. Milton hoists Liz head first through the window while Glenn and I roll around laughing. Of all the times not to have a phone or a camera! That was a first and I'll bet it doesn't happen again!
