Still, driving across Texas. Staying at Hidden Lake RVPark for two nights although there's nothing to do in Beaumont. But the park is nice. Rainy and humid but okay! Like the sound of rain. We had dinner at Tia Juanitas, interesting MX and cajin food. A new food we never had before, ...

Andrew, Sara and Emerson fly today to Australia for 3 weeks. We wish them safe travelling.

Set off west, across Louisiana into Texas. Miles of motorway elevated above swamps, with resident alligators. Crossed Henderson Swamp on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, second longest in U.S. at 18.2 miles long. Passed Breaux Bridge, crawfish capital of the world, and Lafayette, bisque capital!

Saw lots of oil refineries at Beaumont, ...

Wind they holy humidity and then a few sudden cloud bursts more like torrential downpours. Like a said just a little taste just to remind of how important it is to weather watch down in those parts. Did I mention how big the state of Texas actually is? They say things are a ...

Left Kathy & Glens after breakfast, seems weird that the next time we see them will be in France! We'd talked with them and it seems that downtown Houston is just a city with some art galleries and museums and the best thing to see would be NASA space centre. Trouble is it is way south of the city so off we go to fight with the traffic again. We don't get there till after 12 and we hadn't reckoned on all the children - it was mid term break, ...

They say everything is bigger in Texas...well that seems to hold true for birding as well. We had a really big day today. We saw 157 species in 12 hours today. We averaged 13 new species every hour...now that is a good day!

We started at the Skillern tract of Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge Despite not finding a Ruff, we did see lots of waders and shorebirds. Leaving there we headed to Smith Oaks...WOW is all I can really say. ...
