The snaking, narrow, ill-equipped historical mega-road that is known as Route 66 was our only agenda today. We knew that the kitsch, the low speeds, and the endless roadside diversions would seriously slow down our progress from Chicago to Saint Louis, but we did not realize that the convoluted nature of the beast would also keep our slow tack certain.

We were on the road to home about noon and we had to detour again. Parts of I-29 are still closed due to flooding.

I was thinking that the drive home would be be pretty grueling. We were still on an adventure and took our time.
