Great day at Mount Rushmore

We stayed in a Hotel for the first time on our trip while we visited Mount Rushmore. The drive though the Black Hills of South Dakota is worth every moment. I would love to do it on my Motorcycle. Deadwood is a turn of the century town with all of it characters.

Web Hosting Reviews - Criteria for selecting

If you start your own business, first you need land. The same is true if you look online for companies. Need a domain name, a URL. Land area is allocated for dedicated or shared server. This whole service is called Web Hosting, which puts your site on the World Wide Web. If you are paying a large sum for the service, solid, could also visit the fine points. There is a sea of websites hosted in the circuit from which ...

Chicago Day 2 and Camping in South Dakota

Hello everyone!!!!

Thanks for following along, we are trying to post as much as we can. Since our last post, we spent our 2nd day in Chicago (July 3rd)... we started off the day with breakfast in our hotel and than went on a 90 minute boat cruise on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, to see the entire city from a distance. We both agree that downtown Chicago and the Lake views are stunning. Our tour guide informed us ...

Another Day... Another State Capitol

It was only 120 miles from Valentine, NE to Pierre, SD. We arrived before noon at the Downstream Recreation Area at Oahe Dam. This is similar to the Lewis and Clark Rec Area back in Yankton. It is another Corps of Engineers Dam and Recreation area. The Corps is transferring many of these areas to the states to run as state parks. The lake is quite large, running almost as far north as ...

Badlands Aren't Bad at All!

... to Badlands National Park. I'd planned for us to camp here, but we were pretty beat when we got to the Cedar Pass Lodge (which is really a restaurant, cabins, and a gift shop) between 5 and 6 PM so C kind of pushed for staying in a cabin and I was OK with it. We'd noticed in Jamestown how very late the sun sets this far north -- at 9:30 PM it's still very light and it's not full dark till around 11 PM. That may also be a function of being on the very ...

Mount Rushmore - a shrine of democracy

Gas stations - nowhere in site for at least 200 miles at a time. Thankfully we filled up before we left otherwise we seriously would have been in trouble, as there were no signs warning us when we left Wyoming (I was picturing the signs they have in Australia with a kangaroo saying 'Fill up! No gas for the next 150 miles!). Nothing - so we litterally coughed and spluttered our way from one station to the next. We honestly began to think the road ...

Custer was here!

... saved us a very embarrasing appearance in Michigan, and 300 miles extra!! Anyway, after a delightful scenic drive along Custer State Park and into Black Hills National Park we arrived at the Mount Rushmore National Monument. To be sincere we were prepared to be disappointed as monuments are normally overvalued in travel guides, etc...but this one really impacted us. The sheer scale is just beyond imagination. We were so taken back that we even rented the Audio Tour to walk along ...

South Dakota

... In the search for campgrounds in the wee hours of the morning we stumbled upon the Famil-e-caping campground. The place was more like a dark carnival with christmas lights and a butchers shed in the back. So...in spite of us all being creeped out we left. The next town we stopped in had an even creepier campgroud so we drove some more. A few towns later we finally found the place where we stayed...at 4 in the morning. We drove 700 miles in one day.

Two State Capitols in One Day

... then on into South Dakota where I stopped at the Three Sons Restaurant in McLaughlin for a late afternoon snack and coffee. Getting close to Pierre, which isn't pronounce like it is spelled, I saw that there was a free campgournd with bathrooms in town and that's where I headed. I found it and that's where I parked for the night. It even had free hot showers-it became one of my favorite cities.
